Hi everyone, it must of been a month or two now I went to visit my doctors as after I have had food I feel pretty bloated and sometimes i am finding I have lots of wind which is hot and very smelly.
When I visited the doctor, their thoughts was it was a combination of constipation and IBS. I’ve never been aware I have had IBS. I am a 21 year old male. I have just started to get back in to gym. The only thing I could think of is that I eat pretty fast. Any answers or guidance would be highly appreciated.
Many thanks
Ben
Hi Ben,
Two things that will help your condition are grapefruit and alm milk. Try it. You could eat the grapefruit after a meal as your dessert. And alm milk will also help with gas. Good luck.
Get a referral from u doctor to see a GI specialist. They can run test to make sure it’s that. Could be little as stress Stress can cause a lot to the body and act funny. But for IBS. You have to eat slow and 6 small meals a day can’t eat fast cuz it causes bloating and cramps. LowFoodMap. Look that up it can give you ideas on what foods to eat and which to stay away from. Note tho not all foods agree to you on the list it’s a start you have to find which hurt and which are safe and write them day. But get a GI to help you my honest opinion. Best of luck
Constipation and IBS go together because IBS can cause it. When I was diagnosed with IBS, I wasn’t diagnosed wirh a combination of constipation and IBS. I was diagnosed simply as having IBS. Do you have shifting abdominal pain?
Hi Ben, I have personally never heard of hot wind, unless your stomach is processing food and making it hot, it's this that is odd. You could have ibs or it could be something else. Go back to your doctors ask for tests and ask to see a dietician. You need to know why this is happening. I think you are young to be diagnosed with ibs, but it is feasible this is what it is. Are you eating lots of foods to make your wind hot?
Thanks all for your posts here. Any ideas what else this could possibly be ??
Ben
There’s number of things can make you feel like that. It’s best to see a GI and get test done. Hate to say other ideas to make you worry more and stress you out
Ben,
I'm not sure if this is going to help you but I wanted to share my situation, I'm a male in my 30's and have has IBS issues since about 19.
My recent problem is somewhat similar to yours. I have had constipation issues for the last 6 months. Typically I thought of constipation as not having a bowel movement but I recently discovered it's possible to go to the bathroom and still be full of you know what. A few months back I felt as you described, unusually full, distended, and gassy. I also started having severe pain in my lower right side. To make a long story short I went to the hospital and was told I was constipated that the pain was impacted feces. I followed up with a gastroenterologist he said the feces acts as a cork plugging up the system and the waste manifests the gas. Horrible I know!
Anyway it seems my body holds the feces which is what causes the pressure, bloating, and gas. Unfortunately I have not been able to figure out why or how to fix it. I've been to several doctors and all day there is nothing medically wrong and can only offer prescription laxatives as a solution. I have also tried over the counter products too such as Metamucil, probiotics, colon cleanses, stool softeners, increased water intake, magnesium etc.
The problem with these is that when I take them it irritates my system- almost like I'm giving myself IBS from the supplements (I get cramps, more gas, indigestion etc.).
Currently I am playing around with all different things to figure out make myself "regular" without experiencing other side effects.
My point is I wonder if you have the same issue- that you are unknowingly impacted and that is causing the gas bloating etc.
I know I don't have the solution but maybe we can all help one another to figure it out.
Hi Ben,
Gluten has a tendency to bloat. Try gluten free for a week it could make all the difference.
You could try lots of fruit instead of chemical laxatives so long as you have no trouble with fruit. Oranges and prune juice really helped me. Fruit will naturally soften your stools to make them easier to pass. Fruit juice is also excellent.
Occasionally, I have had hot or warm wind even before my IBS started.
Hi Albert,
Thanks for your post, Much appreciated.
I’m really not sure what it could be. I’ve just been prescribed today some peppermint tablets to take 3 times a day daily, so I wonder if this will help the situation otherwise no idea. I have always had some issues with my bowels, years ago I use to hold it in for months and months, but now it’s sort of the opposite I suppose I go more than I did before, but experiencing bloating, and lots of gas. I wonder if it’s because I eat fast? I do go to the gym 2/3 times a week so find I crave for food like mad. Can you relate to this... ??
Ben
Think I’ll give that a try thank you Diane.
Do you know anything nice that has no gluten?? Snacks as well. I.e chocolate bars ??
Ben
Thanks for your post Pippa, would you say orange juice is best to have?? Or anything???
I would try any fruit juice; whatever one you like best.
The peppermint tabs should help, they have helped me in the past. I have gotten many different responses as to what the issue could be, still not sure. Hopefully we can find the answer soon.
Hello all,
apologies its been a while to update you all.
I have recently been having to keep chasing up with my doctors as found my symptoms haven't got any better and haven't gone away for a few days or so.
I decided it was appropriate to see a different Doctor to see what outcome id get, they suggested I had a colonospy down into my bowl to investigate what was going on but the doctors also booked me in for a blood test which was looking for various things in my blood, also did a stool sample. everything came back clear, so I got back involved with the doctor and asked if it was really neccessary to have the procedure done as get very anxious in hospitals and having treatment done, they said it might just help with the symptoms if they find something. I decided to not go ahead with the procedure and wait to see the dietitian. so I have recently about a week ago seen a dietitian and they recommended I drink more fluids as my fluid intake isn't enough for myself, which is resulting in me being constipated and also cut back on certain foods which flares IBS up. the dietitian is going to see me in a few months so hopefully things improve with the things she recommended me by the next time I see her.
what do you ladies and gents think?
apologies about my post being so long lol
Ben .
Follow the advice of your dietician to see if it improves anything. However, you should also see your doctor again for a definitive diagnosis. To diagnose IBS, you don’t need a colonoscopy. I was diagnosed with IBS without one.
Try lemonaid from casa de sante.
I used to have that but mine was stress related, it has helped me with ibs c and with the gas too.
I also love finishing the day with a hot peppermint tea. It helps too...
i am certain the symptoms i am experiencing is definitely IBS, when i first went to my GP and explained the symptoms i was getting they was certain it was IBS. everytime i go there now and see a new doctor, they say it’s IBS, thats all i seem to get for a answer.
I think the only reason when i first went to my doctors giving them the symptoms ive mentioned in my first post also me explaining to them my mother had a scan and polips was found which had to be removed, but with my mind racing with worry they suggested i had the scan to rule out anything. but after all my bloods come back clear and stool sample also came back clear she said it was totally up to me wether i had the scan or not, its just it might rule something out which might get rid of the symptoms im experiencing.
i done some research and also heard from some family members and put me off with the complications that can possibly happen with the procedure.
not sure if anyone would highly recommend me having the procedure done based on what i have said.
I think the problem is, 1 im not opening my bowels enough on a regular basis, 2 eating foods which is not agreeing with me.
i really need someone on here to send me a meal plan for the week for me to follow, and see if anything changes.
really doesnt help i have mental health issues so meal planning and putting in the effort sometimes to make proper meals is hard to come by..
