I have just been told by a very kind and wonderful doctor in A&E that I have a blood clot on my lung. I am just waiting for a CT scan. Will I still be able to have my THP in a few weeks does anyone know?
I am struggling to walk so need my THP - thanks everyone
How long is a few weeks.
I had a clot in my leg 4 days before THR was scheduled, cancelled.
I let my surgery team know straight away, as I thought at least they may be able to put somebody else into my surgery slot.
Told much to risky, to have surgery, re-booked for surgery six weeks later.
Had to come off blood thinners a week before surgery, and then put back on same med's the day after my surgery, fears for another clot, I assume, but a lot of people are put on blood thinners after surgery.
I did not have the enzyme which makes you susceptible to clots, that would have just been another complication, was tested for it though, just lack of moving about, could not, too much pain.
27th of September booked for THP. I will call my surgeon and tell him as soon as I can.
I have tried to move around a lot, as you say it is not easy because of the pain.
Hi rose,
They normally put you on one of the new anticoagulants for 3 months if it is your first one. I had a clot between week 7/8 after the operation and was put on apixaban (eliquis) but it made ill so I stopped after a month. It is dangerous to have op while on thinners. Everyone takes anticoagulants after the op but, the surgeon may delay until you are clear.
Hi:
I am very interested in your comments regarding Apixaban - Eliquis. I am coming to the end if my prescription, and I am wondering what your symptoms were?
I had not attributed my symptoms to the anticoagulant, as there were complications during and following surgery that cannot be attributed to the drug.
An interesting twist, this.
Kind regards
Rose,
Oh no, how awful for you, so near, and yet so far.
Hope you get rid of the clot on your lung and get the hip rescheduled soon.
Healing wishes ❤
Graham
Initally, I had sickness, headaches and dizziness which for the first month were mild and I though I could live with them for three months. Suddenly all these symptoms got very bad, I felt sick all day, head was banging, felt very dizzy and I could not stop shaking inside, I was losing more hair than normal. I then read loads of reviews about this drug.
Went to GP the next morning and told him I was not taking it again, he said "you are taking a risk" which I acknowledged, he said buy "root ginger and make tea". Since then drink lots of water bought bromelain and have lots of more natural anticoagulants.
Thanks all, turns out after CT scan it is not a clot after all!! I am relieved to be put it mildly but now fretting a little about the surgery to come.
Rose, I am really pleased you do not have blood clots. Now you know you are free from them you can go ahead without worry and have your hip op.
From being terrified, I can honestly say I felt nothing at all from having spinal, to being woken up 1hr 50 mins later. Absolutely no pain since op, so please do not worry.
Oh that IS wonderful news.
Don't worry, we're all worried before surgery - I know I was petrified the first time. Do all your home preparations, try a few of those post-op exercises if you can, and relax.
Great news, onwards and upwards!
Probably not because they will probably put you on blood thinners because of the existing clot.
