Blood glucose levels.

Hi,

I'm wondering if anybody can help ? I had blood tests last week and my blood glucose level was 5.4 that my GP marked as normal. My question is it was a non fasting test but thinking about it now i had not eaten for 12 hours before the test so i actually turned it into a fasting test. My question is, is this still normal for what i turned into a fasting test? I've searched the web and it's all a bit conflicting.

Many Thanks

Is this test HbA1c? So, 5.4 would be %, yes?

Whatever the case, from my personal experience, this is absolutely normal.

It is true that HbA1c can be non-fasting because it represents the average blood sugar reading of over 3 months.

I have to do the fasting test as Ion most occasions I have lipids test too.

hope this helps

BTW 5.4 is an excellent result. well done

Thanks for answering. I'm not sure my report says: Plasma glucose level 5.4 mmol/L does that mean anything to you? I was told i didn't need to fast but i did.

Blood sugar 5.4 is normal, hence the GP told you to be at peace.

Thank you!

I am not a qualified doctor but I would say that is fairly normal. You can buy a monitor or you may be able to get one from your local surgery.
