Blood in urine

Good morning all, hope you are all well. I am now 5 days post op and I've had a miserable couple of days. I noticed some blood in my urine this morning. Has anyone else had this problem post op?

Regards

Mark

What pills are you taking?

I have a bad reaction to most

painkillers and anti inflammatories. I have finished up with

IBS(D)

Are you taking blood thinners? If so you needed to call your doctor.you could have urinary track infection also any way you kneed to call your doctor right away.

Hi Mark

Have you every had your PSA checked, or had a DRE of your prostate ?

Hi mark,

I don't think this is anything to do with your op as such, more likely to be one of the meds you are taking. Also, did you have a catheter in situ when you came round after surgery as if so, this can irritate the bladder wall and cause a little bleeding.

You'd be best taking advice from a medical professional though, just to be on the safe side.

I might also be giving you less credit than you are due by asking this question but you haven't been eating beetroot have you? The first time I passed urine after eating beetroot I nearly hotfooted it to A &E until my mum told me it was the colouring from the beetroot.

D'oh! 😜

Hi all, thanks for the advice. Just got back from walk in centre they think I have a water infection so have given me yet more tablets! Got to give a sample in then check with my GP. As all the post op hippies have said, you have highs and lows. Well, I'm definitely having a couple of low days 😩

regards to all

Hi Mark,

The first week was awful but it began to get better.  I thought I'd never get back to normal after being catheterized but I did after a few weeks.  Drink lots of water and I've heard cranberry juice is good for the bladder so I've been drinking that as well.  Checking with your doctor is good because you want to avoid urinary tract infections.  Hang in there!

Good result Mark.

Hi mark

Day 5 is terrible but you should find that next week progress is amazing.we all have good days and bad days but I remember wondering what on earth I had done to myself in week one. Now into week 7 and have no pain and been back to work for the last 2 weeks. Now can't wait to have the next one done.

Much more difficult for men I imagine because I used to cry... but we all progress at different speeds. Just keep doing the exercises and take each day at a time. Not sleeping is depressing as well. It is really important to have a couple of hours in bed lying flat in the afternoon. This helps with blood flow down your leg and helpd with the swelling. My swelling lasted 2 weeks with ankles like balloons and felt much better once this disappeared.

Good that you went to get advice on blood in urine. It's all a bit scary at times.

Take care and hope tomorrow is a better day for you

Hi Mark

As you have been told you hav4e a urin infection. Make sure you drink plenty of fluids. Stay away from Milk, tea and coffee till you are told it is gone. Water or watred down fruit juices are best and plenty of it.

Try cranberry juice , it's good for urine infections and lots of water .

dear mark...5 days post op I was still in hospital..when did you come home?  They did warn me that urine would or could be very dark....also i spoke to a kind neighbour who is now 3 months post op...hells teeth and she said that the first couple of weeks were up and down emotionally..it helped me to know that so hope it helps you too.

Let us know how you are getting on.
