Earlier this this year, I had a number of occurrences of blood in my urine. In May I had a CT Scan and Cystosocopy and no problems found (doctor thought it might have been a case of inflammation)
Although the number of occurrences have reduced I’m still getting blood in urine (the latest was heaviest I’ve noticed). I have no other symptoms, should I go back to GP or give it more time ?
What is your gender? What is your age?
Very good chance that it is your prostate over growing. It happened to many, including myself. Lesser chance is UTI, but with UTI you will get many more symptoms.
If it is the prostate, you will need an intervention to make it smaller. My brother had a TURP and it solved his problem. There are many different procedures out there.
The second option is taking some medication like Finasteride, it worked for me, or Dutasteride. These medications have some unwanted side effects so make sure you are aware of them.
My reply to you was blocked, hopefully temporarily, probably for review for spams. Basically, I think it is your prostate and I had some suggestions for solution.
Thanks Hank. I have infact had BPH and had a Holep procedure six years ago and I understand 70% of my enlarged prostate was removed. I had a prostate examination about 2 years ago and I was told my prostate was just beginning to grow back but seems unlikely, to this layman, that has growed enough to cause a problem. When I had BPH I ,of course, had flow problems but my flow at the moment is very good.
My thinking at the moment is to see how it goes over the next 2 months and if still experience occurrences then check it out with GP .
Just to finish this off. After going to GP and then referral to Urology Dept, they have confirmed Hank’s suggestion that the blood is due to the prostate regrowing and causing veins breaking and leaking blood. Finastride was suggested but I decided against that since there are no other symptoms.
If bleeding is heavy enough then you should do something. Otherwise you can just wait and see. On the positive side of Finasteride, you can always stop taking it after a while. I took it for 6 months and stopped it. It has been 5 months since I stopped and the bleeding has not return, yet. Hank
Actually Hank, the bleeding has become much lighter over the last two months. The Urology doctor thought not going for finastride now was a good idea but will mention the option when writing to my GP so that it is easy to change my mind if the bleeding becomes more problematical. Thanks again for your input.
