Blood / Mucous

Am I the only one that gets some blood and mucous ? Has anyone gotten either one and NOT start antibiotics? HAS anyone taken Biaxin for a flare?

Antibiotics are only needed for treating infections caused by bacteria, but even some bacterial infections get better without antibiotics. Some blood and mucus now and then has been the norm for me for 5 years since my DD surgery. I only went for antibiotics if my physician found an infection, fever, chill, nausea.
Don’t hesitate to check with your doctor though if you have concerns.

Keep well.

No you are not alone. Like Greg I get blood and mucus from time to time. I just follow a clear liquid only diet for 48 hours. I only need antibiotics when I have a real infection with fever, chills, swamping cramps. Some mucus is normal anyway, as that’s what helps the stools to pass, although you are not normally aware of it. Some blood is possible, if a diverticulum bleeds, which sometimes happens with inflammation.

You had the DD Surgery so now you don’t ever get the blood and mucous like you did . Are you glad you had it done?

Definitely, for me it was life saving surgery, I was down from 165 lbs. to 120 lbs. at 5’8" tall.

Hi Carol,
I been getting blood in my stool as well, I have had diverticulitis for 5 years. Last November after knee surgery they prescribed NSAIDs and since then I been bleeding. Since a colonoscopy is out of the question now. I leave with it. I go to blend diet. 48 hrs. if pain increases I call the doctor. Are u in pain when it bleeds?

no pain with bowels sometimes there a burn and stinging when going to potty. Why colonoscopy out of question now? Do you take antibiotics all the time w/flares?
