I'm a 26 year old male. This began about 6-7 years ago when I discovered blood in the toilet bowl after going #2. I don't recall seeing any boody stool or blood in my stool. If I remember correctly, it was just basically blood dripping from my anus. It contiuned for the next day or two then everything went back to normal. It happened again about 2-3 years ago, same exact situation. I have not found any blood in the toilet bowl since then. However, in the past 6 months I have found blood on my toilet paper twice. On the toilet paper, its not bloody red. Its like streaks of dried blood. I know my family has a history with cancer. I actually spoke to a doctor today and hes going to refer me to a gastro specialist as well as request a colonoscopy for me. Has anyone else have experienced this? Thanks for your replies!
Hello.. right i have experienced all of the above. What you need to know is that its probs most def not seriouse. Bright red blood is from the anus opening. Indications of somethi g to worry about would be dark blood in stools streaky like tar... you may have cuts to your anus or piles... i shouldnt worry...
I'm not going to tell you its nothing to worry about because you just never know until you know, but I think a little bit of bright red blood for people isn't all that uncommon.
An irritation from a bowel movement could cause a minor injury or like what happened to me, you can get an internal hemorroid that bleeds. I had to have one removed that not only bled every once and awhile but started bleeding a lot. Believe me, when this first started happening it worried the heck out of me. I was pretty young then too but a few years older than you.
The good thing though is if this started 6 or 7 years ago and your health hasn't drastically worsened, I'd at least take some comfort in that.
I have fresh red blood on toilet paper or dripping over stool painfree for decades every now and then. (Sometimes I feel a 'hard stool' pain and it seems to 'rip' tissue open and it takes often weeks then to heal. Sometimes it's just a painfree surprise.)
In may case, only fissures, had no rectosigmoidoscopy, still alive. But have no colon cancer running in family, so I could be very relaxed about it.
Hi Leep. try not to worry. your docis doing absolutely the correct thing by referring you for a colonoscopy. do you have any diarrea or constipation, excessive fatigue, abdominal pain, frequent bowel movements???
p.s colonscopy standard investigation if you are passing blood from that area, so don't worry.
Thanks for your reply. I have diarreha here and there and no excessive fatigue. I haven't had abdominal pain; however, sometimes I feel pretty gassy.
Thanks for your reply. I do have a feeling that blood in bowl or blood on toilet paper is a result of a hard stool or when I am very dry. However, cancer does run in my family. Four of my close ones have been diagnosed with cancer within the past 6 years with 1 of them being colon cancer.
Thanks for your reply. Yes, I've only had two ocassions with blood in toilet bowl lasting 1 day or 2, but I haven't experienced that in a number of years. I do feel it might be from what you mentioned or maybe from a hard stool. I haven't had much health problems within the past 6 or 7 years.
Thanks for your reply. However, its just cuts and nothing serious.
I am no doc, but i think you would have more symptoms if it was anything serious, or disease, but best to checked out by way of colonoscopy. I've had a couple of these scopes & found it best to ask/take the offer of sedation, but you will have to get someone to pick you up afterwards. good luck & let us know on here how you get on.
