Blood spots

Hi Eileen didnt mean anything by that I really value your advice. Sometimes it all gets a bit much thats all not only PMR but constant pain in hip. Thank goodness that pred keeps it at bay and I should be thankful I am as good as I am.

At least we have each other to talk to and go on this journey with

Thank you all Carol x

Hallo Eileen.   Do you know if it does any HARM if one halves the pred (ie morning and night)?  I'm only on 5 mg, but the doctors over here say "take

it all in the morning".  My pain is in the night and morning, then it lessens during the day.

Harm no, but It often doesn't work quite as well and you end up needing a slightly higher dose in total - one big shot of anti-inflammatory achieves more than 2 half goes. The usual suggestion is 2/3 and 1/3 if you do split the dose. The pain lessens during the day because the pred takes a bit of time to take effect and once you get moving the pain will improve anyway. For some people it works to take the dose late at night, even for the simple white tablet version of pred. 2am is the optimum time and I do know someone who did that and it worked well for her. With enteric coated you could do the same (take it at night) but take it mid to late evening.

Can't remember - is the hip pain because you need a hip replacement? If so have you not considered asking for it soon? If it isn't a hip replacement problem have they considered trochaneteric bursitis - also common alongside PMR - and a cortisone injection can work miracles there.

Thanks.  What would we do without you!

Yes Eileen it is from hip needing replacement. I am on the list but its still quite a long wait. Going to see GP tomorrow to see if she can speed things up as its getting worse. Just getting so down as whole life seems to revolve aroyour help

und it. Cant take my dogs out cant go shopping for long and my dance group is a def no no. Thanks for

If you are willing to go to another hospital the waits are often shorter - where do you live? And don't play down the symptoms - because anyone who doesn't tell it like it is will be kept waiting to accomodate the people who are apparently worse. The x-ray isn't the gospel about the state you are in. The bad hip will influence the PMR - both the ladies I know had their hip replacements done fairly quickly once they decided to go for it, and then had a steady reduction to zero pred. One was still on 10mg pred because she couldn't move at all on less - being stable and able to move is essential to be able to do the physio post op. There is a definite connection between the stress of the OA pain and the amount of pred you need to control the PMR.

thats what I normally do but on This occasion I had gone in the pool with my grandson and it was not an option. Will know in future. Will have to come out with wet legs

Eileen,

Sorry but this is not a reply to the above, but you always seem so helpful (I have GCA and am on this site) but this is not about me.

its just that we are off to Italy in a couple of hours and my husband

has put his back out and can hardly walk, just don't know what to do

if we have time does a cortizone injection be the answer or is that just temporary,

Sorry about this,

A cortisone injection can work like magic. Bjorn Borg won Wimbedon after pulling a stomach muscle and having one. I don't think they would let him do that nowadays though! My mother had one when she hurt her back and had to do some important talk to a load of people.

Sorry - late today as we' were travelling and so are you now. Do hope you managed something.
