Has anyone experienced sky-high blood sugars after UFE? I'm type 2 diabetic and had UFE about a week ago, and since then, my blood sugar is insanely high. Ordinarily it's well-controlled with diet and exercise plus I take 1000mg ER metformin daily. After UFE , fasting sugar is around 160 and 2 hours PP is around 235. My experience with UFE has so far been awful. Crazy, intense pain for the first five days, a constant low-grade fever, nausea, dizziness, etc.. Pain meds don't do a good enough job controlling pain for me (always been that way). I couldn't eat at all for the first 24 hours which made my blood sugar continue to increase. Then because of the pain, I could only take a bite or two of food each day (per meal) for the next 4 days. I missed taking my meds for 4 days, so it's been 2 days now since I've been back on them. I know the pain, stress, not eating, missing meds, etc... can mess with my blood sugar ... but has anyone had experience with how long it takes to get back to normal? Today, the pain finally relented somewhat and I've tried to eat normally again (not quite there, but it was reasonable). It's alarming to see such high glucose numbers. What can I do? The staff at the hospital tested my blood sugar a lot and saw it was high. They were concerned at first, but after speaking to my family doctor who said that my A1C is well-controlled, the hospital staff no longer seemed to think it was an issue and discharged me.
I have not had the UFE yet. However I do remember when I was doing research for surgery for fibroids that they said that the diabetes can be affected by any medical procedure. Maybe you’re going to an adjustment period (temporary reaction). I would follow up with my endo it if I were in your position. I hope that helps.
