Just thought I would ask the question on blood tests and fibromyalgia, what should we be looking for. What are we looking for or deficient in.
Apparently there is no blood test they can do to find out if you have fibro
Hi, I never did blood tests for Fibro, I don't know that there are blood tests
for it. In 1999 an endo gave me the dix as I was trying to get thyroid help.
My belief is that a LOT of issues need to be addressed.....
Thyroid
Magnesium
B12
Adrenals
Vit D3
Cortisol and all the regular labs MD's do, here in the U.S. anyway
This MD that I saw for thyroid claims to be an FM expert and gets his patients on guaifensen (drug), I did not go with it.
I only ask as I have a Dr's Appointment and wonder if I can ask to be checked for the right vitamin etc to be tested for
The blood tests are normally to eliminate other illnesses. I was tested for thyroid and various types of arthritis. I had more tests but I didn't ask what they were as I was in a bad way at the time!
It's mainly a diagnosis by symptoms. But they can test for basic deficiencies like Joy mentioned to rule out other problems. They may check your Ig levels. But go to a rheumatologist. A regular GP won't know know WTF they're doing, usually.
I saw my integrative MD yesterday for my annual check with her and labs she does once a year....she's impressed with my supplements I take and I reminded her 19 yrs on grape seed extract.....
We talked about doing another mineral panel and I had one in 2005 and had some low minerals which I've been "kinda" working on but I declined as it's out of pocket to a tune of about $150....
Minerals are critical for all health....I told her I take 1500mg magnesium thru the day anda she said "good for you"....
I've never gone to a so called FM doc.....rheumy can help but a good integrative or naturopath is your best bets....
That sounds awesome. Those aren't so many docs like that in my area anyway. Naturopath is always nest, I think.
But in the US we are stuck in the MEDICAL system. I learned to rely on doctors for diagnostics and some treatments or meds, but go the natural route when I can for treatment.
I say go to a Rheumatologist because fibro is still not taken seriously by many people and especially if not diagnosed by a specialist. For, say, federal aid or disability, work release purposes.
Joy, have you tried Bioplasma or Concentrace ionic liquid or tablet minerals?
Vitamin D deficiency and Hypothyroidism has very similar symptoms to Fibromyalgia, so they may want to check them.
Hello Graham,
As many people have said on here, the doc does blood tests to eliminate other conditions, and I have had a whole host of these. He also did one for vit D deficiency which many people with Fibro seem to have. So maybe this is the one to ask for.
Take care, Anne
