Has anyone had the tablet form of the blood thinners in the UK rather than the injections in the stomach after their THR?
If so could someone tell me the name of the drug?

asprin, my surgeon said they switched from the stomach shots because patients weren't doing them and that 2 asprin a day was just as good. but check with dr first! You may have a special condition needing the shots.
Hello Tech78
I am in Australia. I was in hospital for over a month with revisit of my 2nd hip replacement and it was quite a serious operation. I had injections every day during this stay but when I was sent home I was put on a tablet form blood thinner named Xarelto and had 10mg in morning only until I saw my surgeon for follow up a month later. Hopefully you may have this product in UK. I had no side affects.
All the best.
I had pills but I don't remember the name of the drug
Is it warfarin, that's what my MIL had but there is a few
2 low dose aspirin for 6 weeks post surgery.
Hi Tech
Yes I had the anticoagulants they are called apixaban and you take them twice a day for 6 weeks
Lynne
Hi
I took Rivoroxiban for 35 days post op, 10 mg once a day
Chris
I'm in the US and I took aspirin for a few weeks as my blood thinner.
warfarin
I'm in the US and I take two full-strength coated aspirins.
Because I cannot take aspirin, gastritis or inflamed stomach, I was also on methotrextrate, I was given Xalrelto, i was given this prior to surgery as I had a blood clot in my leg. It caused a major stir in my queensland hospital as It was not an approved drug by the hospital admin, GP arranged for letter from vascular specialist to support my side of the argument, nurses amazed that i was being given this new drug. as they called it.
2nd THR, 15 months later, no arguments, I was given it as a matter of course, and I noticed other patients were been given the same drug so they must have had good results with lack of clots.
I am in UK and upon discharge was prescribed the anticoagulant Apixaban twice daily for four weeks post op.
Im in UK had Xeralto not sure if thats how its spelt. Much better. Glad my surgeon prescribed them. Others with different surgeon had injections. Had them for 5 weeks post op.
hi tech,
I had 6 weeks of self-injecting Fragmin and asked for pills after 2nd THR - Surgeon said NO ... something about trusting the effectiveness from injections more than tablets ... yighhhhh - another round of 6 weeks self- injecting --
hey, but you what , when it is all done .... it will be a distant (not too pleasant) memory
how are doing otherwise>
big warm hug

See my website 'medicines' page for a list - I had Rivaroxaban, the trade name is Xarelto, it works differently to warfarin and heparin.

Hi, I'm in the UK and had blood thinning tablets for a month. Dabigatran Etexilate.
In the UK there are new blood thinners on the market, that are termed NOAC's, and from what I've read is that you are on them around five weeks post op. Apixaban and Rivoroxaban are two of the names (sorry, there are others but I can't remember names),or you can also just have the subcutaneous injections for that period . I am due for surgery in three weeks, and when I asked my pre - op nurse she said as far as she knew we only had injection treatment for one week. I have asked to find our for my next appointment (tues), as I am very worried as PE is a major complication. If I don't get a more satisfactory answer, then I shall be asking to discuss with the Consultant prior to D day! I will post if I get the answer
