Born with stomach infection

Have always been curious about what was wrong with me at birth. Back in 1958 my Mom thought her water was leaking at 36 weeks. When she gave birth to me she knew something was wrong because the doctors and nurses started running everywhere and no one would tell her what was going on or let her see me. They had my Dad go into her room to tell her that I was sick with a stomach infection and would die. Well according to my Mom they called in a specialist.....I was in ICU for 4 weeks and I have a deep scar on my left ankle from the I.V's hooked up to me but I have been perfectly fine since then. Anyone have any answers as to what this could have been?

Do you complain of anything at the moment? Are you having any symptoms?

I am not entirely sure what could have happened to you but my waters broke 7 weeks early with my second child and she was born with an infection so she had a drop of antibiotics. I don't know what the infection was because they didn't tell ME. She is 7 now and seems fine health wise. One thing is is that if you waters leak or break early there is a high risk of mother getting an Infection passed onto the baby. There is also something called Strep B which most woman Carry in their gut which is harmless to us but if it's passed into a baby it can cause a serious infection at birth. I apparently was a carrier. Maybe this could be the same with you mother? It's rare i think to cause complications but it can happen.

Thanks....that helps a bit....she didn't realize that her water was leaking, she just thought she was wetting her pants. I actually weighed 8.5 which is actually really big for an early baby so I always wondered if she had toxeima....she said they always kept thinking she was diabetic but the test would show negative during her pregnancy.

No....I've actually always been very healthy.

Does this help you?

Formal requests under the Data Protection Act

Under the Data Protection Act 1998, you have a legal right to apply for access to health information held about you. This includes your NHS or private health records held by a GP, optician or dentist, or by a hospital.

A health record contains information about your mental and physical health recorded by a healthcare professional as part of your care.

If you want to see your health records, you don't have to give a reason.

Applying for access to your health records

Depending on which health records you want to see, submit your request in writing or by email to a registered health professional such as:

•your GP surgery

•your optician

•your dentist

•the hospital trust's health records manager or patient services manager

This is known as a Subject Access Request (SAR).

It's a good idea to state the dates of the records when you apply.

The health records manager, GP or other healthcare professional will decide whether your request can be approved. They can sometimes refuse to disclose information if, for example the information you have asked for contains information that relates to another person.
