Both hips replaced one in 2010 and one in 2011 still have thigh pain

I should be walking pretty good by now but have thigh and groin pain daily. I keep a cane handy if I have to walk a lot but for the most part I walk without it. I went through all the physical therapy twice after each surgery. My balance is off and have fallen a few times. My surgeon says the pain is from my lumbar stenosis but I don't think that's the culprit. Does anyone else have a similar problem?

Hi that's a long while to be recovering from hip replacement surgery, is it both hips the pain originates from or only one sided, did your leg length stay equal, what have xrays etc shown to be the cause.

It could possibly be muscular but you need to know to be able to live a happy life without pain.

How old are you as well

Thanks for responding. I have recovered from my hip replacements but after all these years I'm still having pain in both thighs and periodically have pain in my groin, both sides. I'm 64 years old. My hips were replaced due to osteoarthritis. I used to go to the doctor every time I fell but he said both hips look fine. I finally just quit going to him.

At physical therapy they measured my legs and both are the same length.

What do you mean about it could be muscular?

So sad to hear about your suffering. Be careful about falling it could lead to fractures. It's better to use a cane instead of falling

I'm 2 an half years post left thr. I had thigh pain terrible at first then pee time it got less.

Now none.

It may need to heal some more. Next time you see your doctor have therm measure the lengj of your legs to make sure they are even because if the operated side is longer or shorter that will throw off your balance.

My health care professionals take falling, especially repeat falls, very seriously. Every effort is made to figure out why and to help the patient to prevent falling in the future. I would be a squeaky wheel with my doctor(s) if I kept on falling.

Your bones may have healed and look fine on an x-ray. However, if you still have pain, you probably have damage in soft tissue, such as tendons, ligaments and/or muscle.  Those kinds of injuries do not show up on x-ray. You should go to an orthopedist and get a proper diagnosis from exam and imaging (MRI or ultrasound or other?), and then a treatment program. Most soft tissue damage heals with time and treatment.

Some injuries, though, are too extensive to heal on their own. I just had surgery, with a different surgeon from the one who did my THR, to repair my gluteus medius and gluteus minimus tendons, which were torn since my THR last year in July 2015. They did not heal in 15 months, and I was in pain and unable to walk without aids during that time. Only surgery could solve my problem.

I wish you the best of luck in getting to the bottom of your pain.

I agree xrays and MRI needed to find if its a bone alignment issues with the joint implant device itself could be in the wrong angle or IT band impingement soft tissue issues show up usually thru MRI.

KEEP FIGHTING  you should not have any pain. I have two implants and I hope that you can see another surgeon for second or third opinion. Show them xrays and MRI ASK your surgeon for a copy of the OP.REPORT AND very important find out what type implant and manufacturer .

Be your own advocate do research and insist that you should not have any pain . Some docs know what happened and are not willing to admit what the issue is or that they made a mistake. They do not walk on water. But you should and you can once you get down to the source of your pain.

Many blessing for a complete pain free recovery.

Thank you for your encouraging advice. I know something is wrong. I'll have to get my medical records and have my doc refer me.

How long has it been since you had your replacements?

I had my first one done 17 years ago and the second one done 5 years ago. The second one only 5 years old I am having revision done Jan 2017. It was really wrong from the very beginning. Long story but been diligent finding answers. Finally realized it was the doc that messed up and used metal on metal small modular neck component causing pain.

Push for what is right. I know you will find the answers. Do research. Know the surgery proceedures and protocols. You will get answers.

Also a good hip Physio can help identify what is causing the pain.

Thank you for your advice. I really do appreciate it.
