For a while now I have had a lot of anxiety about my bowel movements. Basically, whenever I need the toilet or get wind, I have mini sort of panic attacks where i shake and feel nauseus. I then start to think about what I've eaten that day or what it could be because of. I don't have a regular bowel movement schedule, it could literally be whenever or wherever. When I have the urge to poop, i get really bad anxiety and start to worry that it might be diarrhea. I am currently in exam season and experience this badly before exams in the morning. I have anxiety in other ways but I wont get into that. I struggle going out because I dont know when I will need the toilet, this just causes more anxiety. I went to the doctors and she mentioned that I have a dysfunctional vagus nerve. Can someone explain to me more about this or tell me how to stop this anxiety. Thanks.
Thats interesting. The vagus nerve connects from the brain to the belly. Large. During anxiety the hormones and adrenaline fly thru your system. This goes thru the vagus nerve. Hence ppl with belly spasms, belly aches..etc..deep belly breathing by the way calms the vagus nerve. Im un familiar with that diagnosis. Maybe you can see a gastroenterologist for a better explanation.
Same here! I usually end up feeling better after I have had a bowel movement. The reason why I know its anxiety because if I do my breathing excersizes and distract myself with something else that urge goes away.
