Bowen - increase prednisone or not?

Eileen, do you top up a bit on prednisone either before or after a Bowen treatment?

I never 'topped up' on pred either before or after.

Just ensure you drink at least a litre of water after Bowen and try to do so every day.

Thanks Lodger.  I know you've had great success with Bowen.  Your reply is appreciated.

I knew about the importance of water from previous treatments.  And also the imprtance of getting up and moving every 30 minutes on the day of treatment.

There has been a fair bit of discussion recently about increasing when the body is under stress from travel, treatments, increased activity, etc. But also cautions about avoiding yoyoing.  Sometimes a 'body' just doesn't know what to do.

Take a look at the posting on this site 'Living with PMR & GCA'.

Written by a couple of patients (work it out) for patients.

Good Luck and there is 'Light at the end of the Tunnel'  We just don't know how long that d**n tunnel is.

No, like lodger I don't top up on pred before or after a Bowen session - I just make sure I rest and drink plenty of water and while I might feel a bit gungy the next day it is a different sort of gungy and really very very rarely it happens! I often find my balance is a bit strange - it is because your body is readjusting to where your muscles are.

Yes, I aready had a look.  Unfortunately, the site indicted it's only available in the UK.

Boy, I sure wish I could hop across the pond and visit you.  I'd buy all sorts of stuff!   Booklets, pansy pins, handmade cards and jewelry.  And I might get to meet and have a cuppa with you and others.  One can always dream.

To access a site "accessible only from the UK," sign up for Tunnel Bear (free), then choose U.K. as the country you wish to be from. As for that nice cuppa, 'fraid you have to wait until they digitize tea.

first of all may I ask what a Bowen is? second, does anyone know if its available in the US?

The SITE is accessible from anywhere - I use it regularly from Italy. The book and other items may not be because there are issues with payment.

Yes it is to be found in the US. It is a physical therapy that uses very gentle movements to realign muscles and their attachments to bones - put terribly basically.

Google Joanne Hewitt Bowen therapy and you should get my (and lodger's) lady's site where she explains it. She is in the NE of England so no use to you but the explanation is good. Or you could look for Mitchell Mosher American podiatrist Bowen therapy video - one person (US I think) thought it looked a load of hooey which I found strange since he was happy to go for extended sessions of acupuncture which hasn't been found to do a great deal in PMR although it may reduce pain a bit. Bowen definitely can make a difference - plenty of us can attest to that! You will know within 3 sessions at the most if it is going to help. Since PMR is a chronic condition you may need follow-up session every 6 months or so - or you may not.

We have placed on the website, details of how to contact us and also details are contained as how to pay from overseas in the DVD purchase section.  If anyone wants to make further enquiries, email pmrgcafightersne@googlemail.com.

Hope this helps.

Thank you Eileen I will check up on this.

Yes, Sue, Bowen Therapy is available in the US.  I live in Oregon and searched on line for Bowen therapy.  Good luck!  And have a good day! Linda

Thank you Linda I will check this out. Have you tried this yet?

Yes, I have and it has helped. It took three times before I felt relief though. Was pretty exhausted after each session and the next day too. Out here it costs $75 per session or 3 for $200. Good luck...

I will def look into it ...thank you
