BP medication help?

Hi everyone I've suffered high BP for approximately 4 years. Initially it was controlled with Rampril until the beginning of this year when Dr increased the dose. This caused me to develop a dreadful cough so had to come off it. I was then prescribed Losartsan which again didnt agree with me gave me dreadful headaches fatigue and dizziness. I started Amlodipine yesterday and woke up with dreadful headache sore eyes and had to have a nap after lunch! Is this worth persevering or has anyone any recommendations for medication without these dreadful side affects. Any suggestions?

How high is your BP and what doses were prescribed ?
Actually Losartan (first prescribed around 2004) is the only one out of about seven I tried that did agree with me. I does tend to suit most people I have met.

I tried almost every medical out there, it was candesartan that worked for me. That was two years ago. since then the dr stopped me from taking meds. I embarked on sports, stopped salt all together and changed my diet. If your med is increasing, review your lifestyle instead. Blood pressure meds have potential to changes ones quality of life. work with your dr to take control.

Thanks for your reply which is reassuring to know it may actually take some time and work to get this sorted will definitely look at lifestyle etc as I felt so much better when i didnt take anything.

My BP averaged around 182/90 and I was taking 25mg of Losartan. Think may take some time to get this sorted but will keep trying.

HI
I thought i would reply as I had to try 6/7 different BP pills Before I FOUND ONE THAT AGREED BUT OF COURSE ALL HAVE SIDE EFFECTS ? I now take 25 mg of Losarton Potassium. i tried AMLOPODINE TERRIBLE FOR ME BUT WORKS FOR OTHERS.
Atenolol, RAMPRIMIL , DOXIZOSIN , to name a few. Some made my BP go higher !! OTHERS made me suicidal so stopped. Maybe a combination of diuretic and smaller dose bp ?? Keep trying as after i tried so many I WAS ABOUT TO GIVE UP AND THEN WENT ON Losarton. The drugs seem to work individually on people. YOU MIGHT WANT TO CHECK OUT THE FORUM HERE ON Amlopodine
lots of info. Patricia

25 mg is quite a small dose. When mine was consistently that high I was taking 50 mg morning and night.

1 day isn’t enough to decide whether this med is for you. Give it 2 weeks unless you have extreme reactions before discontinuing it.

I forgot to add assuming that you are in the UK when it is that high
( Consistently over 168) you are entitled to be referred to a hypertension centre to see a specialist. They are not cardiologists but specialists in BP and part of kidney units at major hospitals. You GP may not have even heard of them.
I wrote to the one at our nearest major hospital several years ago and he agreed to see me.
There are also several non drug treatments as well such as renal denervation and another that involves implanting a device which looks a bit like a paper clip between a major artery in the thigh and a vein that runs right next to it.
