Bradycardia?

So I went to the doctor this morning due to heart palpitations and sleep apnea. They checked my heart and even did an Electrocardiogram and my doctor said I was ok and don't really have anything to worry about but said I could go to get a sleep study. I do plan on getting a sleep study but I am confused because on the paper she gave me from the electrocardiogram it said that I have Sinus Bradycardia. Should I be worried? I have been afraid to sleep at night. I am 18 years old. I mean will my heart stop? Please help and thanks!

Hi,

I know little about sinus bradycardia, except that it can be detected in athletes and people taking medication to lower their blood pressure. It means your heart rate is slow. If there was an issue, your doc would surely have told you. Perhaps you can contact them and ask for reassurance and clarification. Heart palpitations are due to fear or excitement in the vast majority of cases. In the meantime, please don't worry, everything points to you being in good health and sleepless nights don't solve problems, they only make you miserable and tired. I hope this helps to soothe your fears.

Sinus bradycardia is just a technical term to say your heat rate is slower than 50bpm. Not uncommon especially in fit young men. You’re heart rate can be as low as 35bpm is the super fit and it’s no problem.  Don’t worry about it.
