Brain Zaps (Electrical Impulses) on Celexa

First of all, this is not a question about Celex withdrawal, so please don't mention weaning yourself off or coming off of Celexa and experiencing this.  This question is related to taking Celexa for 5-10 years and starting to have these side effects.

Has anyoone here been through this?  I have experienced these during withdrawal, but I have been on the same dosage for about 5 years (40mg) and continue to take this dosage every day.  If you have experi enced this, what got rid of your symptoms and is it most likely not related to the Celexa?

Thank you :-)

Ooh not sure - like you, only had those brain zaps when I came off once.  Can't recall having them whilst taking the medication.

I know sometimes I'd get an odd dip years I to taking the medicine, so maybe it's something like that.

Hi Brandon

I haven't had these on Cit but had them on Paxil 10 years ago after about 6 months of being on them. They are bloody horrible, am early days on Cit so not sure if will get them aswell. Could be just weird brain chemistry (10 years ago I couldn't find anything about them and nothing on net) but you shouldn't have to put up  with them. Sorry not more help but hope you get some answers and  / or it eases up.

Hi Brandon,

I understand what your asking, not withdrawal but while on the Celex and have been for a while.

I believe that these brain zaps are called lhermitte's

lhermitte's

a shocking sensation that can radiates down the back and in the head)

Brain zaps, also known as "brain shocks," "brain shivers" or "head shocks" are a fairly common withdrawal symptom experienced during discontinuation (or reduction of dose) of SSRI and SNRI antidepressant drugs but can also happen while using the drug in general over a long or short period, it's been researched that it is a sign that the drug is still working and can be atributed to all sorts of Anti depresants they can also happen all over the body and often happen while i'm alseep and wake me up its a litle scary.  They have also been attributed to seziures as just because we are takng the same drug for  a perood of time does not mean one's body and bain stops  changing thus you should visit your doctor or Pysichiatrist I highly suggest to see if they are in fact doing the same job as they should be, sometimes people need to change a SSRI

as the job its suppose to be doing can change over time.  Althought uncomforotable you get use to them.  Just remember any of these drugs are changing messages in the brain and often example putting a huge weight on our nervous system dulliing it and changing the body in many ways, synthetic, chemicles.  Im starting to look at natures drugs and i dont mean blackmores or swise vitamins real grown plants, moses, mushrooms (with caution) I of course you can download  inonfomaion even what grows to heal what and hypno therapy, I have been on many of SSRI's Gaba;s etc and found only naure with researdh and a little time can make you feel bette than ever finally with no drugs.

hope this helps
