Okay so I've been on here quite a while now and I suffer massively with health anxiety. I go through stages of different conditions I'm convinced I have, whether it's my heart, brain, stomach you name it in worried about it. Now I've recently smelt burnt rubber...once! Whilst sat on my sofa...I've not got myself into a state thinking I have a brain Tumor as we know that can be a symptom. I've done the worst and googled it! Which as we all know is a bad move. When I smelt it my window was open so yeah could have come from outside as I know it came from nothing in my home. It's all I've been thinking about and I don't want to kick up more symptoms by me worrying about it. I feel so silly even writing this! I hate anxiety so much. I assumed headache was the main symptom but after looking online and finding out it can be a last symptom well it's sent me into an even bigger panic as I dont particularly suffer with headaches very often. Anyone else suffered with this?
First, you need to calm yourself down. Any anxiety will make everything 10 times worse. You really need to stop googling your symptoms because they will not pertain to your unique individual situation. You are just making yourself more anxious which will create more symptoms.
The fact that you smell the burnt rubber in no way suggest you have a brain tumor. Believe me, you would be getting way more symptoms than that. I'm not going to name them because you might develop them due to your anxiety. I have suffered from anxiety for over 30 years and I have smelled unusual things that were not there.
you see, you can take just about any symptom and it will relate to just about any condition. The fact that you don't get headaches very often tells me there's a 99.999999% chance you don't have a brain tumor.
people smell weird things all the time. Sometimes there's something in the environment that makes a particular smell, sometimes when we have a virus things smell differently and on and on.
please don't do what I did which was waste over 20 years of my life worrying about my health and other things. I could've been enjoying my life all that time. When you waste a day with worry, you're never getting that day back. You're definitely going to regret wasting all those days and possibly years. I sure did. Nothing bad ever happened.
if you really want peace of mind, visit your doctor to get checked out. But it's really important to work on your negative and fearful thinking because it will affect the quality of your life!
go to YouTube and listen to meditations for negative thinking or anxiety. They teach you how to separate the negativity from yourself. Stay active and socialize, do things for other people to keep your mind focused,
you have your whole life ahead of you. The vast majority of people get well into their older age before any major health issues occur.
you will be fine. If it's really difficult for you, get some counseling by someone professional who can help you get a different perspective.
As you've been round in circles before with this, you know that no matter how many people tell you it's anxiety, your just not going to believe them. You need to speak to your gp about your health obsessions, they can get help for you. Constantly checking for other people's experience won't help, because as you know, everyone's experience of anxiety is different, and your not accepting what people are telling you. On a different note, the mods her have in the past stopped people from posting when they have received advice in the past from many people and it hasn't been acted on. Just something to remember. They don't do this to be mean, they know that circular discussions dont help the poster at all
