I'm 11 days post op THR right hip. Have just had my clips removed. Hopefully I will be discharged by the community nurse 2 weeks post op and I can have a shower-can't wait. I posted on here about what to wear in hospital and followed excellent advice. I came up with a bright idea that was commented on in hospital as being just that! Instead of taking slippers into hospital I bought a pair of "Deck Shoes", slip on, they are used on boats. I bought mine in that famous store that hasn't been doing too well lately and has closed 43 stores in the UK recently.Only £12 and money well spent. They have slip proof soles for wet surfaces, are wipe clean, waterproof and have elasticated sides. At the moment I wash my hair by standing next to the bath and using the shower head. I cover my operated leg with a discarded plastic bag from the dry cleaners. It is large enough to tie the top round my body like a toga. Naturally I do spill a little water on the bathroom floor and onto my feet. With deck shoes this is not a problem. I don't slip and the shoes wipe dry. So far the outcome of my surgery has been beyond my highest hopes. The surgeon has shortened my leg so that I'm more or less balanced for the first time ever. I'm walking with one crutch in the house and two when I go out walking. I can manage nearly half a mile so far. I go out twice a day. I feel very fortunate.
Hang in there fellow hippies. Just plough through the rough and tough days. I had low blood pressure after the surgery and was four days in hospital. The blood thinning tablets can cause this.
