Hi Jean,
pi have passed on your best wishes. She is on the continuous passive motion machine non stop. I asked her if it takes her bend to 130 degrees every time and she said yes!
Caz
Hi caz
i'm so pleased she's ok
we don't have those machines in our hospital in the UK
i wish we did then my bend may be bettr
although it's the straightening I'm having a problem with
Jean
The physio in the hospital here told me that they had stopped using them seven years ago, but my surgeon kept threatening me with it if my bend didn't reach 90. So they must still have one at least.
The physio talked to me about it as if it was some sort of torture machine straight out of a horror film!
Poor Britta though, to be on it non stop, day and night, with every bend being taken to 130. She says sleeping is more like dozing.
We can hire them here though at $150 a week it's a bit steep.
I was at 0 degrees from day one, but the bend is hard work.
i had one painful physio manipulation and I will have another next week if I'm not over 105 degrees.
Caz
Hi caz
i had a Physio manipulation oh my word it certainly hurt
it's the straightening that I'm finding a problem
and my physio discharged me when I had a 95degree bend which I thought was far too soon
but that's the NHS for you....
i'm my little pedal machine does the job
13 weeks and still struggling with sleepless nights etc...
Jean
Hi Jean,
I have been very lucky with sleep. I remember back around the ten day mark that I had back ache from laying on my back so long. I think in all, so far maybe 5 sleepless nights, but most of them were after the physio manipulation.
i use our exercise bike now, it took a while to manage a full revolution, but now I can do it. It does hurt my bum though, bike seats do.
I am still seeing my physio almost 11 weeks post op now. It's called Medicare here.
My son has just come to see me, silly guy, he is sunburnt! That's a real no no here.
Caz
hello jean & caz ... thanks ladies, for liaising about me! i have just posted about my whole adventure so i won't bore you here with it again. but i am confident that it was the right thing to do and it really wasn't bad at all. i think i was thinking it would be like a TKR all over again which of course it isn't. so the leg is super sore but no stabbing pain. i actually find lying on the machine (the one i have at home) very comfortable and a relief for when my thigh and calves have too much tension on them and ache. of course buidling up the bend is somewhat painful but after all these months, i have a system that works for me and i know how much i can take. as long as you combine the active with the passive bending, i think these machines are wonderful.
all this to say thanks for thinking of me so much! big hugs to you both, b
You're welcome Britta
i'm just pleased you're ok
its such a shame we no longer use the passive motion machines
all the best
you'll be dancing in the street soon
Jean
Hi, Thank you Britta. This procedure has been threatened to me a few times by my surgeon. It has become my " bogeyman" but not any more.
Thanks again
Caz
i know!!!! the word "threaten" is absolutely correct. of course it is meant to spur you on but if you consider that stats show every 20 -30th patient needs this procedure done, then i don't understand the threats. see how you go ... dec 15th, right?
Yes, and I have a physio before that on Friday. He will measure my bend.
I am off to a Barbie tonight, I don't really want to go, but I am forcing myself out of the house.
I drove for the first time yesterday! I have been putting it off, but yesterday when Des was out m daughter rang in a panic, I was the only one who could drive her and her cat to the vet. So I did. And, Britta ..... I changed all my settings back and put my choice of CDs in!
Onwards and Upwards
Caz
you made me laugh!! way to go caz!! i was the same, i put off driving for way too long and then wondered why. hope your daughter's cat was ok? the things you do in an emergency, huh? as you say, onwards and upwards ... keep me posted on the physios verdict.
I will. I hope it's better news than the cat. My daughter has been keeping it alive by sheer love. It looks like it should be in The Walking Dead! She has it at home again, it's not looking good.
I haven't heard any more news on my sister-in-law, I'm going to call my brother tonight.
Caz
ahhh, bless her. it is heartbreaking to admit that a beloved pet has suffered for long enough. i have two furry monsters of my own - both of whom are stretched out on the back of the couch - and love them to bits and get very, very stressed when they are ill.
keep me posted on how she is doing. early days for her. god, SO not ready to have the second one done. one courageous lady, your sister-in-law!
I spoke to my sister-in-law last night, she had just got home. That's 4 days! Her bend is 120 degrees! She was upbeat and very happy. She is 80.
She said the day after she got 70 then with a push 90. The next day she got 120 so she went home. I'm happy for her, and so jealous. Lol
Ca
Wow she's beat me with the bend and I'm week 13 ...all the best to her that's wonderful
