Did you feel when the screws snapped? When did they break? Did your doc leave them in?

Bimalleolar equivalent fracture with a displaced medial malleolus. Got a plate with 5 screws;. Surgery on 1/2/2019. boot 4 weeks later. 6 weeks later started PT visits. 6 visits only. 4 weeks later told to wean from boot over next two weeks. I started in wheelchair in public, walker at home then two crutches then one crutch. Was told that in 8-10 weeks I would be ‘normal’ and I believed it. I have been having extreme pain on top of foot and feels like I’m walking on rocks when I wear regular shoe. Spoke to nurse last week told me to take ibuprofen 3 times/day and get more therapy and wear boot if needed and use a cane if needed. I do exercises…circle clockwise and counter; flex up/down; left/right twice daily. Massage with biofreeze twice daily. Today 4/18 still have bad limp because of pain in ankle joint, top/bottom of foot. ITS FRUSTRATING! I want my life back..
Some people say I should be past this…I’m working on finding reg shoes

THANKS for sharing. I’m 4 months out and shuffle when I walk as I limp along on my cane Im 52 years old and have never experienced anything so life changing in my life.

THANKS for sharing. I’m 4 months out and shuffle when I walk as I limp along on my cane Im 52 years old and have never experienced anything so life changing in my life. I had a bimallelar equiv fracture . Got plate with 4 screws and relocation of inside of ankle. I look at everything differently…where I step, height of curbs, how fast people are walking so I can get out of way. I keep telling myself its a process but its hard. THANKS for sharing.

you give me hope!

Bimalleolar ankle fracture with a displaced medial malleolus. Got a plate with 5 screws;. Surgery on 1/2/2019. boot 4 weeks later. 6 weeks later started PT visits. Today I feel that I hurt now more because I use my ankle. I limp terribly and am trying to be positice about normal again

I think I expected ankle break to be like a leg break. Im 4 months out, have a terrible limp because of pain. I religiously do my exercises morning and night and feel like I will never get thru this. I keep telling myself its a procesz.

I know you posted this 4 years ago. My question is how are you now? I broke my ankle in 3 places back In May. Ive had surgery. Its been about 6 weeks since the injury. Im going crazy. I have small kids. Im just hoping it gets better. I just wanna walk again

Hi, i’m just reading these posts as i’ve suffered a similar injury 3 weeks ago. I have a Weber C type bimalleolar ankle fracture with a broken fibula and syndesmotic opening. I too have small kids and it’s a terrible time of year for this to happen. I’m bed bound every day with my wife having to do everything. It’s awful.

I’ve been in a boot since surgery and was discharged 1 day after the operation. I’ve had staples removed and am due to start ankle flexes tomorrow with my boot off. I can’t weight bear for another 3 weeks (6 in total). I’ve got physio starting in January once I’ve had an x-ray check and consultation with the doctor.

I’m 39 and have found the 3 weeks to be incredibly difficult. Just want normality back so I can help at home and be a good dad/husband.
