Broken ribs

has anyone here suffered from broken ribs because of osteoporosis?

I haven’t broken ribs, thank goodness, but you have my sympathy if you have.My Husband fell down stairs onto his back and broke 3 ribs, down from his shoulder blade, yrs ago. He was never tested for OP.
He was in pain for months and couldn’t take a deep breath. The GP said they couldn’t do anything to repair them, or even strap him up.No idea whether this lack of intervention still applies.
Take care and I hope you soon feel better.

well I got the results back from the doctor and no fracture was seen on the X-ray . I don’t trust x-rays for showing rib fractures because in February I had a significant fall where I broke my left ankle in 3 places and sprained my right ankle. and while everyone was concentrating on my ankles I kept telling them that my left side hurt and I wanted to get an x-ray to see if I had a rib fracture. They finally relented and did one image and the radiologist that read it indicated there was no evidence of a fractured rib. Only recently when I had a CT done for my back and a radiologist mentioned a healed fracture on one of my ribs on the left side. so now I am having a hard time believing a radiologist that says I have no fracture based on it x-ray. I so much would rather have a CT but of course no one will do that. And like they told your husband years ago and it’s still the same today… There is no real treatment for a fractured rib. Unless of course it breaks into two pieces or the ends have sharp edges inflicted injury to organs such as the lungs. neither is the case for me so I think I’m just going to have to find a way to deal with this pain on my own. it’s just nice to have justification for the pain.

Are you managing OK now on your ankle? Hopefully your rib pain will improve soon. I wonder whether a Physio could help you now, with gentle exercises?
Best wishes
