13 days Amox, now a 7 day course of Ciprofloxacin, the feelings I have inside are that the wheeze is coming not from my lung, more the windpipe, central back area, also the pain is more central, is there anything else that could be causing this? I do have asthma and take relevant inhalers, my peak flow is good, becoming increasingly frustrated with this persistant condition, any clues please....

That is the first time I have known anyone else to say this, that it feels like the windpipe. This is exactly what I've been telling my GP since October and today, I feel quite poorly and think another infection is starting. My cough hasn't cleared but today I've been zapped of my enery and can't stop coughing. I also have this awful taste whenever I cough. I'm going to make another appointment to see my GP and I'm going to ask for a referral to a consultant again. Not seen one for over two years.
David try not to worry. Bronchiectasis requires patience unfortunately. I always take a 14 day course of antibiotics and even then it doesn't always clear it up. The worst infection I ever had lasted months.
I get pains in my back between.my shoulder blades and sometimes I get a terrible cramping pain in my side at the base of my lungs. The professor I saw whose specialisation is bronchiectasis told me that doctors are not sure why we get pain. If it gets intense plague your doctor. I have seen the specialist nurse practitioner at our GP practice today and she is a great help with this kind of thing. Do you have one at your doctors?
If you are still coughing up yucky phlegm when your course ends its the wrong antibiotic and you need a culture growing from your sputum to discover which antibiotic will be effective. Its a bit trial and error. My nurse reminded me today to use my puffer regularly and to drink 8 glasses of water a day. Oh and to always do my physio no matter what. The sooner you get help with that the sooner you'll feel better.
thankyou Lyn, as yet I have'nt heard anything regarding the physio side of things, I must chase that uo asap. and patience? yes I guess I'm lacking that just now, feeling quite alone with this at present, apart from the advice given here, thankyou for your kind words
David physio is a blummin nuisance and I never feel like starting it but without clearing that muck away from your lungs in a controlled way you will never be right.
Hi David...did you have a sputum test? that should tell the hospital/doctor which tablets to take.
I just changed my doctor after he wouldn't agree to a sputum test, and the new one was quite willing to send one to the hospital. The hospital sent back the results after finding 'staphylococcuc Aurelis' in my lungs.
I have been given 7 days of Tetracycline tablets 250mg.
It seems quite a nasty 'bug' which is probably why I have had quite a difficult time these past few weeks.

Oddly enough the nurse practitioner was after me today to make sure I ask for a sputum test if I get a persistent infection. I had not bothered. I got a small lecture on taking proper care of myself. Ooops!
Hi Lesley, wow, I did'nt have a sputum test anytime recently, however a few weeks ago I remember my GP saying that one sample had come back with this Staphylococcus bug in it!!! So putting 2 and 2 together, it sounds like that's why I can't get rid of the current infection, wrong anti biotics!! I like yourself have had a difficult time these past few weeks, thankyou so much for that gem of information, hopefully I can be prescribed the Tetracycline tomorrow, will update you and let you know, thankyou so very much, thank god for patient.info etc etc!! bless ya

You know what David ? You're not getting the help you need. Not in any direction. Sad to say because it's probably the last thing you feel like doing, you are going to have to get after your GP and get the support you need so badly. I know you live in the Highlands but you are worth proper care just like everyone else!
Hi David, you really need to get this Staphylococcus bug sorted out as it is a serious one. Would the specialist team at the hospital help, the ones who diagnosed the bronchiectasus?
Look up Staphylococcus on google and also Tetracycline, hope you get it sorted soon.
The Tetracycline tablets are strong, I feel really strange today, drinking lots of water and I must admit, the second day and the coughing is greatly reduced! It may be that I am resting and not going out in the cold wind.
