Around 6 months ago I noticed a bruise under neath my big toe nail on my right foot. It’s constantly been there for 6 months however more recently it has started to lift my toe nail and I can only presume the toe nail is dead where the bruise is. Is this something that is normal? Is there anything I can try and do to get rid of it? What could of caused the bruise as I don’t remember dropping anything on my toe and want to avoid it happening again.
When you drop something on your toe and it is hard enough to bring about a bruise you will normally remember the occasion. So I wonder if this is toenail fungus and not a bruise.
If this is a bruise,the nail will eventually fall off and a new nail will start growing within a few weeks,but if its a fungal infection you need to start treatment. If the nail is lifting there is a chance that you will accidentally catch it on something and rip it off the nailbed completely.
I would recommend a visit to your doctor for an assessment and correct diagnosis of your nail problem and advice on how to treat.
That's a normal reaction the nail lifting.
