Bruising, Pain and working

Hi! I have been quite busy the last few months since I last posted nothing overly interesting just life lol. Anyway I have been working part time at a coffee shop for almost two months now since disability really barely pays the basics and my laptop is beginning to die and so forth.

The pain is sheer hell when I am at home I can barely move/walk. Good thing I live with my mom we split the chores and she does my laundry since I have never been able to get down the narrow basement stairs since we lived here. I am hoping this eases up soon, but at almost two months I am beginning to wonder.

I also noticed that my real hip is more painful now I suppose with the extreme cold and extra work the arthritis has decided to act up. Which sucks since I use that side to support myself more.

Now onto my replaced hip, I don’t like anything touching that side or too much pressure. I can’t even lie on that side not quite painful but really uncomfortable but it has been like this since day one. I just noticed yesterday as I was getting dressed that I have some bruises on my hip/upper leg which is weird because like I said I don’t like anything touching it. And if a hit it I would remember something like that. Part of me wonders if it is due to working my muscles more and not writing it off as anything to do with the hip yet.

But just two days ago something weird happened. Just to let everyone know that I have slightly been pushing myself more than normal by also babysitting my sister’s three little ones from 5am to 11am than going to work at 3:30 to 10pm - only because she didn’t have a sitter and it was only for the past four days. Well two days ago about ten minutes after I got there I started to feel a little sick and I was like great now I am coming down with something. And boy was I sick but this is the kicker I only got physically ill after I had to get up. Sitting down, especially in the recliner I was fine still didn’t feel the greatest but no where nearing vomiting. For example I got up to get the kids their breakfast and juice than have to make a bee line for the bathroom.

The worst was when I had to actually leave the house to come home I got sick on the drive. I live literally four blocks from their house and it is a three minute drive and the bumpy roads from the snow made me vomit. When I got home I quickly cleaned myself up and crawled in bed (I had my mom call my work to say I couldn’t make it in at 7 am so someone could take over my shift). After sleeping for half an hour I got sick one last time. Here I was expecting to be sick for a day or two and it stopped after a few hours mind you I wasn’t moving unless I absolutely had to at this point. So that was weird and another thing was my fake hip was cold the rest of me was warm but I even let my mom touch the hip and she threw extra blankets on me. And it was around this time I noticed the bruises.

I am am going to drop my hours to 20 a week soon and hoping that will help a bit. But has anyone else experienced something similar? And I think my hip is about ten years old. I am considering calling my family doctor on Monday since I don’t want to bug my surgeon but at the same time when I saw my family doctor in October he said that if I have any issues with the hip go to Toronto that is where my surgeon is. Thanks for reading my rambling post.

I'd advice going to either your Dr or surgeon ASAP. Sounds like something odd is going off, you shouldn't be vomiting like that. 🤔

Dear Jocelyn

I'm very sorry to hear your tale of woe. My thoughts are that your ten year old hip is not the priority issue for you at the moment but your general health most certainly is.

I suggest that you make a list of what you want answers to so that you give yourself the best chance of getting your immediate health problems addressed when you see your doctor on Monday.

Best wishes, Richard

Please contact your doctor to make sure you don't have an infection in the operated leg. All the best

Jocelyn,

You definitely should see a Dr., and write down your concerns before you go. I tend to forget something important, then regret it! Sounds like you are overdoing it, but also may have some issues going on. Good Luck! Report back and let us know how you make out.
