Bruising

hi i had hip replacement . All went well was home after 2 days . Day eight and back of thigh developed a huge bruise . Does anyone know if this is normal please . Thank you for any information

Yes perfectly normal IMO and very, very much more so if you taking blood thinners. Cheers, Richard

hi . bruising is VERY normal for most surgery but any bone related ones you’ll get more. I didn’t get any bruising because my surgeon /hospital use a pico dressing on their hip surgeries. it’s a pressurized dressing with a little pump attached to it that buzzes each time you move. you keep it on for 10 days then its removed by your practice nurse. it not only reduces bruising but also infection and prevents bugs entering the wound once it’s on. amazing imo. quite expensive but must be cost effective in stopping wound infections and need for re admission. I know I was lucky as not all places use them In the uk

yes, and will descend as gravity works it’s magic

Oh yes, very normal. My bruise even went down into my calf. It faded after about 3 weeks, if I remember right.

ok thank you very much for your replies . Very reassuring
