So I found out through a friend that a one time partner I had this valentines failed to tell me she had genital herpes. We had sex with a condom, she had no visible marks, and has since told me she’s on medicine so it’s “not contagious”.
I started having what I would call my first symptom on February 22bd. Slight irritation around the mouth and tip of my penis and a very small bump on the hanging lip of my penis. I also have a brownish small swelling around the lip. It’s very small and hard to shoa in pictures but it’s new and its real. Nothing specifically pertaining to the bump has every hurt though. Went to PP the 24th and the doctor told me it didn’t look like herpes, maybe genital warts, or something else but she took a swab and told me it was 50/50. The next few days I had slight irritation when wearing tight underwear but no other bumps, sores etc. I get a call back Friday the 28th saying the test got rejected because it was in an expired test tube. They ask me to come back in for another test. This new doctor tells me it’s nothing but irritated skin tags. She said it may have been friction.. which made sense to me because I had been dry humping a new girl to avoid penetration since I found out I was exposed. Or from me washing my penis with soap too much (which I had admittedly done out of paranoia since the day I found out my partner had herpes). She refused to do any type of test and told me that there is no chance I have herpes because the girl would’ve hurt if she had any symptoms and I used a condom.
I was elated and dumb. So I decided to hook up with a new girl that I was interested in and had been pretty much begging me for sex for the past week. We used a condom. The sex felt great up until I came. Then my penis whole head felt very irritated or inflamed. I still haven’t told the girl anything. But I went on a trip to Miami later day and the head felt more inflamed as well as I started having immense pain around scrotum. I then had to pee incessantly for a few hours. Peeing made me feel better and has never hurt.
I went to urgent care in Miami. They looked at my penis and said i don’t have herpes but it maybe hpv. They told me to see a dermatologist when I had the chance but they did test me for everything. They also treated me for chlamydia and gonorrhea.
I had cyclistic pain around my scrotum ever since and my head of my penis has gone back and forth from normal, to slight irritation, to sometimes inflamed but the bumps look no different and are not painful to the touch.
The Miami urgent care called me 2 days ago and told me I was clean for everything except longterm hsv1 (which I knew I had because I’ve had cold sores since i was a kid). HSV 2 or genital herpes came negative for recent infection about 15 days after exposure. The doctor assured me im in the clear but this was an igm test.. which is said to not be trustworthy because of its risk for false positives.. i havent found much info on false negatives with it. I was negative on the long term igg test but there hasnt been enough time for me to be positive yet.The urgent care wanted to check me out again but I already left Miami so I went to one in my state.
This next doctor looked at my penis and said there is nothing wrong with it, said I don’t have herpes. That my pain in my scrotum area is probably from me having rough sex or working out (sounds like nonsense to me). He had me do a urine sample for uti but it came back negative.
The groin/scrotum pain went away a couple days ago. I’ve used over the counter antifungal cream on the head of my penis and only worn baggy boxers and my irritation at the penis is pretty much nonexistant now too.
Now I’m just over here wondering if I should believe these doctors who don’t seem to know herpes doesn’t only come out as blisters. Or should I be afraid that I infected someone myself. I want to know if anyone’s had similar symptoms to me. It just doesn’t seem like a coincidence to me. Any help or opinions would be great!
