bunion operation

Surgeon said it was one of the worst failed operations he'd ever seen! Anyone else had bad experience, I would love to know.

Whathappened to you?

I had mine 6 months ago and am still in pain. as i work on my feet i have as yet been unable to return yet but have to make it in next week as I cant live on tea sympathy!

Dont know how i'll manage though.

pain under my big toe and feel as though i'm walking on a stone. also pain above toe, alternates between burning & feeling cold. sharp pains from the side of where bunion was. not much movement in my toe at all :-(

What happened to you? Described my symptoms perfectly! Am sorry 2 hear yours. Op - scarf/akin osteotomy + cheilectomy 24 Aug 2011. Con ortho saw x-rays - stage 2 arthritis. Post-op MTP joint with arthritis & scar tissue has 'fused'. Pain under big toe feels like walking on stones & the rest! 4 months post-op MTP joint stiff, Con ortho said in letter to me 'I was content with this' when I complained re unacceptable outcome. Unable to wear shoe on right foot as 'hinge' wont bend to get foot into shoe! Walk on side of foot to relieve pressure on big toe joint causes pain on my hammer toe & baby toe's tailor bunion but to all intents I am limping now! Had op and paid privately didnt want to take resources from NHS. Con ortho offered remedial op under general. Dont want general as I have weak resistance to GA, it gives me respiratory tract infection(s) post-op. Con ortho knows this, had op with ankle block & epidural. Con ortho will 'try' to loosen MTP joint and break up scar tissue using steroid injection into MTP joint. 60/40% chance success & will be able to wear flat shoes without discomfort - could always wear flat shoes without discomfort anyway. Am having second opinion shortly for my own peace of mind. Complete loss of trust and confidence in first Con ortho. Wont be using him again.

Hiya warhorse.

was wondering how you are doing now. it sounds as though you have had it tough.

I am managing to work with the support of my colleagues, wont be long before they tire of it though.

still in much pain but the surgeon says all is good........ITS NOT!

apparantly i had an infection in my joint from march and they were worried about bone loss due to this, I'm on my 5th lot of antibiotics. the screws are protruding and rubbing against my shoe and still feel I'm walking on a sharp stone.

I feel they are hiding the truth from me & just want to get better.

A second oppinion would be good but who to go to? I worry that the medical profession is all in "the old boys club" & I may never get an honest assesment.
