Are there any smokers out there that have had a bunion operation and were there any complications to your healing
I was a very good girl and didn't smoke for 24 hours before the op and for the 1st 6 weeks of recovery. My doctor said I must try not to smoke as this could impede the recovery. Bones need good quility blood to knit and repair. I really didn't want anything going wrong so I complied. I had both feet done at the same time so I wasn't very mobile that helped. Down side I gained 2 kilos that i can't seemto shift now. i had my op on 23 jan. so far so good but i wish I'd had my bunions done 10 years ago.
That's excellent Bev. How did you do it? I don't know if I could manage it
It wasn't so bad really cos I was laid up having both feet done I hardly left the bedroom for the first few weeks lol. If you have trouble try electronic ciggies. Good luck
Hello Jane,
I had a bunionectomy with laptops procedure, now @14 wks. I'm doing good now. Walking in trainers and returning to work Friday.
I am a smoker but managed to quit a week before and up to a wks after since I was told about the higher risk of infection. Although I was okay and didn't experience any problems I do think smoking did slow down my progress with healing. I'm 33 and in great health, but it seemed to take have taken longer then the 12 wks I was told that would be the max I would be out. I didn't smoke s much as I did before.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions
Good luck
