I had my bunion operated on at a podiatry clinic four years ago. The blood supply to my toe was
Compromised and since then I have endured four corrective operations. Comprising three bone grafts with internal metal plates and one stint in an external fixator. This has taken four years out of my life and I still do not know if the latest op has fixed the problem. One of the next solutions could be
amputation of the front of my foot as the avascular necrosis caused by the initial operation has been
spreading. Please, people do not have this complex surgery done by a podiatrist.
Oh my goodness Annette, so sorry you had a horrible experience! You're absolutely correct...an operation of this scope requires an Orthopedic Surgeon.
There are always risks involved in surgery and being put under anesthesia particularly, but no one should endure what you are going through due to someone's incompetence. I hope you found some legal remedy to cover your suffering and cost of living.
I had my op on oct 3rd and have been posting on another thread on this forum. I am almost 10weeks post op now. My left foot is fixed - no pain can wear most shoes however my right foot hurts to pull shoes on and I can only wear soft leather moccasins at the moment or my surgical Velcro shoes. When I am at home with socks I am relatively pain free. X-rays are coming up normal so surgeon no idea what pain is and said he'd see me again in 4 weeks. Fingers crossed !
Jules, I am 32 days post op and walking with my special boot outside since day two but walking in my athletic socks while in the house. My x-rays show normal healing, some momentary pain but it quickly subsides. I had surgery using the ludloff plate. Recommend this surgery for quicker healing and mobility.
After removing the orthopedic boot or driving shoe, my foot is sore and a little bit swollen. Not painful, just achy. So what you experience sounds normal. The x-rays would show if anything were wrong.
I occasionally have brief soreness where the pain blocks were given and they are no where near the surgery site. The foot is traumatized in surgery and will take time to heal. I have yet to wear a normal shoe but I plan to buy a pair of Haflingers and have them ready to wear after my next post op December 18th.
