Hello Ladies,
I am 13 weeks post op after undergoing a Burch Colposuspension and Mesh removal procedure. I;m pleased to say that the operation itself has been a complete success, however I did have a severe wound infection, and still have an open wound which requires daily dressings. That aside, my stomach is very swollen - the swelling extends down to my pubic area, more on one side than the other. My consultant said this is nothing to with him! I'm not slim but have never have had a protruding stomach as I do now - I look 5 months pregnant! I'm hoping that it will eventually subside but I am worried that this may be permantant. Has anyone had a similar experience?
sounds horrible, why did you have a mesh removal??xi had mesh for anterior repair last summer and now need one for posterior repair!!
I had a TVT for SUI about 7 years ago - I knew there were problems with it straight away but the hospital couldn't find any problem but I had pain and discomfort for 2 years. Eventually, I had an x-ray at a different hospital (original hospital didn't use x-ray in their investigations) that clearly showed that the tape hade erroded into my bladder. I had to have that portion of the tape removed immediately but they didn't remove all of the tape. Once this had been removed my SUI returned. It's taken me 5 years to decide what to do about it as I was concerned about further complications. The surgeon who carried out my Burch Colposuspension said the remaining tape was in his way, so had to remove it - I think he may have had to do a bit of digging around for it. He initially suggested I had another TVT rather than the Burch Colpo, but I really didn't want to go down that route again. Have you had any problems with your first mesh repair? I did a lot of research about the mesh after my experience of it. I know that everyone's experience is different, and to be honest, I'll never know if my experience was down to surgical error or a problem with the mesh, or just my body rejecting it, I decided it wasn't for me.
Hi I had an anterior repair with a vacuum hysterectomy aug 13 and then aug 14 the anterior repair needed doing again, this time same consultant used mest, apparently there are two types, the one used in usa not so good, mine is so far ok, but the posterior feels like it would be better with the mesh, just cant face another major op three years in a row!!! I just get uncomfortable if i sit too long, x
The TVT tape used in my op was manufactured by Ethicon - I believe it is a division of Johnson & Johnson, an American firm. I too had days were I was uncomfortable sitting down (I felt like my insides were being pulled up), other days I found it uncomfortable to stand for long. I think it will probably be a different product to the one they use for repairs. I understand how you feel - any operation is painful and stressful, it sounds easy to weigh up the pro's and con's but nothing prepares you for the mental stress, both before and after the procedure, it's not an easy decision. I hope you have an understanding consultant who can give you all the information you need to help you make your choice.
