Thinking what is left for me after two fundoplications failures
I don't know what fundoplications is. Acid reflux is new to me, I started my symptoms the end of June, It came on me suddenly, the first endoscopy, camera up the nose, through the back of my mouth was 2 weeks ago when I was told it was the silent reflux. My Dr wants me to have another endoscopy as I'd lost almost a stone in weight...I know the reason I lost weight it was because I couldn't eat! I'm having this other endoscopy on Wednesday. the camera down the mouth into the lower stomach!
I guess PPIs....
I had a fundoplication that didn't work. That is because I suffer from nocturnal reflux so my lower oesophageal sphincter relaxes completely when I am in a deep sleep so even one that has been tightened will still let acid through. For me it is permanent PPIs. The only side effect I get is itching skin for which I take an antihistamine. I have been on them for over 20 years and my quality of life is pretty good as long as I avoid certain foods and don't eat in the evening (I try to stop at 7pm). I know they get bad press but for me it is a choice between a really awful quality of life or taking the risk.
