Burning Mouth Syndrome/Oral Lichen Planus

has anyone had or have burning mouth syndrome before having the Oral lichen planus?

i had the BMS about 6-7 years before getting OLP.

I had both symptoms at the same time. I was having denal work done & I was sent for a biopsy, which turned out ok. I have had the OLP for about 5yrs & am over the worst, but still get a little stinging with spicy food. The first 4yrs was hell, as you probably know. Have you been given the anesthetic mouthwash?

The only mouth rinse i was given was dexamethasone. It really didn't help. Then was prescribed clobesterol (sp) which helped heal a section of erosive gum. When i was 1st diagnosed with the BMS 12 yrs ago, i was told it was caused by stress, anxiety, etc. i' m still not convinced of that cause....anyhow, have had problems with BMS& OLP for 12 years....

Hi cookie

I was diagnosed with olp about 14 years ago, around that time also had an abnormal cervical smear test didn't know then I had it my dentist found it, it is only the last few years it as bothered me, can't have any spice even mild burns me, I am 57 and post menopausal what about you cookie any problems in the past with smear test X

I did get burning mouth about a year or so before getting OLP. I'm sure the 2 are connected. For the most part the burning mouth is more pain/discomfort than the OLP.

No, no problems. Do you have lichen anywhere else on your body?i'm 63. I have seen 2 oral surgeons and had 4 biopsies. None of the medical professionals know much about this condition. My last doc doesn't want to prescribe prednisone unless it becomes so bad i can't eat well.....
