# Burning Mouth Syndrome

I recently had a colonoscopy where I went through anesthesia. After I woke up from the procedure and came home everytime I moved my tongue around my mouth it felt like a burning sensation on my top, roof of mouth and the sides. Has anyone had simiilar experiences? I looked it up and found something like the BMS but there wasn't any information on the causes for it. So I am wondering if it might be because I was dehydrated or a side effect triggered through sedation.. please help.

It'll just be the side-effects of the anaesthesia, don't worry about it. (I'm a former nurse btw.)

Hi Lily,
Appreciate the reply. I just didn't understand how an IV sedation would relate to anything in the mouth. I've never had this experience before. Day 2 and the top of my mouth still has a burning sensation even though there is no burn. Hopefully it resides soon.

Branden, I didn't understand that you'd just had IV sedation - you used the word "anesthesia", which is an entirely different procedure.
I still don't think it's BMS, and I still think it will wear off in a few days. I'm sending you a private message about what I think is the probable cause. Private messages via this site don't carry viruses and don't expose the email address of either party.

It oftern happens unfortunately. The mouth can be scratched or bruised or any trauma and you will get these symptoms. Salt water gargles not oo much medicated mouth wash.

BMS I had a liver transplant a year ago and suffered with Bms for a year after surgery I read an article that stated that Trintellix 5mg Tb (Was Brintellix) helped some people. I got my ENT to prescribe and after a few days it got better and I took it for two months and got aff it. Recommended to organ transplant hospital and found it is a common problem with patients. They were excited about the possibilities. Hope this helps anyone that suffers Bms
