bursitis a side effect of Avodart (Dutasteride)?

I started taking Avodart in June, then in August developed bursitis in my left elbow, then in September it started in the right elbow. Has anyone ever experienced this as a side effect of Avodart?

Taking high dose NSAIDs has eliminated the swelling in both elbows so they now look normal, but I can’t put pressure on either elbow without a fair amount of pain. Never had any orthopedic problems before in my life, so I’m wondering whether it could’ve been caused by the Avodart.

Steve, How old are you? Most likely it’s age related, albeit a slight chance exits that Avodart, which decreases the conversion of T to DHT decreased your T. I have had a simiral problem at age 59, when my T start to drop from 450-400 ng/dL level at age 55. Check your T level. Ageing male with lower T experience all kind of muscular and joint pains, albeit without swelling. Swelling is a sign of serious inflammation, which should be treated with antibiotics or other anti-inflammatory drug, that you did. I have had rotator cuff and tennis elbow problems at different stage of my life due to skiing trauma lower T readings after age 60. Applying Testosterone gel improved my T readings and pain syndrome. Just curious, does Avodart impact your libido or erections?
Take care. Gene

Just turned 55… Thanks for the input, I think checking the T level is a good idea. With all the urinary problems I’ve had for the last 4-5 years, the one thing that thankfully hasn’t been a problem is sexual function. Although about a year before starting the Avodart, the urologist put me on Cialis daily for bph. (71gram prostate, Prostate cancer was ruled out through biopsy…) So I don’t know if the Cialis might be covering up an underlying problem there.

I was extremely hesitant about taking the Avodart. I spent 6 months researching and debating it after the urologist initially prescribed it. But having been to 3 urologists, enduring all their invasive tests and procedures, and researching every procedure under the sun, I finally decided to start it in June. I’ve seen the studies that show the bulk of Avodart side effects start in the first 6 months. I’m 4 months in, and I do think the libido started decreasing in the 3rd month.

My PSA did drop from 10 to 7.5 after 3 months on the Avodart, for whatever that’s worth…
