Recovering after having TKR opened up again and a button inserted. Any blogs would be most appreciated such as recovery tips etc
Sorry you had to be opened up again. I don't have tips but am curious what a button insert is?
Not sure why they did not put the button in with 1st op? Was there a reason? I had TKR with paella resurface and a button prosthesis. Dont think it makes a difference to rehab pathway ice, elevate, pain control and be dedicated to your exercises to get range and build muscle. You will have down days , sleepless nights and pain but focus and dip in and out of here. Chico and Oldfatguy have sound tips. 13 months on I am so happy with the outcome but still have other joint probs it's just one less to worry about😊
Woops patella!
Firstly from what i can remember, they scrape away all the gunk under the patella and then insert a plastic dome shaped button object (I could be wrong here) (will have to sort out my notes when I have the energy) between the prosthetic and the patella to stop any friction.
I was only discharged on Friday, so I'm still recovering.
I am so cross about all this. i had TKR on the 13th February, 2016, which left me nearly crippled. It all started when I decided to go down the route of NHS Direct to have the op in a private hospital, thinking i would get better treatment. How wrong I was? It was about 20 miles away from my home, so when things went wrong there was noway I could get over there easily because of not being able to drive. Also, the hospital kept telling me to go to my own doctor who hadn't got a clue about new knees and instead he would send me to A&E.
Eventually I managed to get back with the NHS proper and a surgeon agreed to see me. I then had to suffer snidy comments from the first surgeon who seemed to think I was going for a second opinion, when really i just wanted somebody to help me. Also i had to beg him before i saw the NHS surgeon to send me for a scan, which proved there were issues around the patella. The NHS surgeon then said he thought it a plastic button inset would help, but he said the success rate was 50/50. I had this op done on the 15th January, 2018, so I am still recovering. However, even though I had to be opened up again, to about three quarters of the original cut, I feel a lot better in this recovery than before and my balance is much better. However, its early days and I just pray it is ok. I can't believe that Ive lost two years of my life, because of vanity thinking i
That's hard . I hope you complained. I researched my surgeon and success stats had to wait 5 months on NHS and fortunate enough to have has a great result. It is a bit of a lottery what you get but I stuck to.my guns about who I wanted to do it. Have to be a bit assertive.
I think if they resurface the patella then a button prosthesis is usually used but dontcquote me on I.
I hope moving forward all goes well.
Best wishes
