Went for my 8 week follow up! My left hip looks amazing and I'm doing really really well. They took an x-ray of my right knee which is bent and swollen and I cannot straighten it out. This was due to overcompensating because the left hip was so bad. Bottom line is that I am bone on bone on the right knee and they are scheduling me for a total knee replacement end of July. So I guess I will go to the knee replacement boards also. Has anybody else had to ever do that? I'll always be a hippie first and foremost!
Wow Liz - sounds as if you will be bionic shortly.
I wonder if I am headed down this road as my left knee remains badly irritated since surgery in Feb.

Well I did it opposite of you. I had TKR in July 2014 due to bone on bone OA, and now I'm needing THR on same side, although I've not made the appointment yet.
The knee forum is wonderful. You will meet great people as you do on this forum. The reason I follow this forum is because I know I will be using it soon with my hip, so just wanted to know what to expect.

Hi Liz, no havent had that , luckily my knees are fine - my OA was hip specific . Good luck with it all, sounds as if you are making a great recovery from the hip surgery so am sure all will go with the knee - big hug xxx
My friend did, he had his hip done a couple of years ago and his knee done in Feb this year, I think the knee was a longer recovery than the hip but he is all back to normal now, he is 61, playing bowls and going canoeing this weekend - so I guess that's something to aim for. Good luck x
Hi well done for your recovery, I'm 14 weeks post op and doing fine, like you I have got to have TKR done, I do not see surgeon until July, but to be totally honest I'm dreading it. Thought THR was not to bad at all, but everyone seems to say to me that the Knee is a lot more painful😁. Have you been told this as well . Good luck x
I had a THR April 2015 and by September an arthroscopy of both knees September 2015 it was found I needed both knees to have a patellafemoral joint replacement. The first one completed a month ago on the same side as the new hip. I have to say in my case its a bit of a struggle I had a couple of complications which put my recovery a little behind but am now catching up. Excerising is crucial. Before and after to keep muscles strong. All the best.

I still follow the forum even though my TKR has been almost two years now. There are still some people on there that were on two years ago.

Yes exactly the same has just happeh to me l have had both hips replaced one in december and one in feb this year. I am still of my work recovering and it seemed to be going ok but taking a while. I was walking everyday but ended up in more pain l was not sure where where exactly as my thighs were sore my knee's were swollen and sore so l decided to get an xray done on my knee's and hips just to make sure all was ok but just found out yesterday that my knees are severly scared and will probably need both knee's replaced. I see the surgon on the 22nd. So from both hips to both knees its hard going.

Friend of mine is having cartiledge extracted from a good knee, harvested, and sent to a lab to grow more cartiledge from the harvested sample. Once an adequate growth of new material is genererated it will be inserted where the old used to be. Sounds pretty cutting edge and no idea how it will work but sounds a lo less invasivie than total knee replacement.
