My muscles cortract when i stand ,i weigh 500 pounds,i cant walk,i have head pressure and severe tinnitus,2 years off.
Sorry to hear of your pain..please explain more ..I am only familiar with valium which is similar
Do you mean you are no longer on lorazepam ??..what is your dose ?
I was on 8 mg of lorazapam about equal to 40 mg of valium and after 9 years the doctor put me in the hospital for a 4 day detox.
took my last dose of 8 mg om march 10 of 2013,was on for 9 years and breaking bones from falls,so he put me in the hosputal for a 4 day detox,as i had no idea of what i was in for,its horrible, plus i am 77,wasting years unable to function.
This is outrageous ..any reduction in benzos has to be done over years !!!..I am involuntarily dependent on valium for 44 years ..got down to 10 mg from 30 mg
Before that I came off 30 mg cold turkey ..never again ....I will die next time they want me to do that
your detox was a barbaric torture ..any Benzo detox takes at least 2 years ..I feel for you
are you i the US ?
..breaking bones has nothing to do with your meds ..I'm so so enraged at what you've said
please tell your doctor and get back some quality of life ..you need to resume the meds
I will help if I can
To get off the equivalent of 40 mg of valium in 4 days is a prescription for torture ..unbelievable suffering ...I've been there ..but after 5 months was lucky to get back on the meds
i asked a few months after i was off,and he said no,that 3 months later, the benzos were out of my system,so it must be brain damage from the concussions i suffered from the falls. I showed him that that high disage of benzos causes older people to fall . He had no comment. Going back after 2 years off may not work and then a slow taper ,i may not live that long .way too risky when many get better in their third year. Thank you.
Can you tell us some more Arnold?
In 2004 i started lorazapam( ativan) my dose was steaddily increased untill it reached 8 mg daily. I was blacking out suffering several fall fracturing my head, shoulder ,and wrist. My heurogolist was giving me MRI's ampnd nothing shiwed up. I then asked to stop the Benzo. I got a 4 day in hospital detox and have had severe problems since march of 2013. My problems are physical as my muscles were relaxed by the benzo and when it was taken away my brain is overexciting them to where upon standing all my skeletal muscles contract making walking for more that a few steps impossible, and i have severe tinittus.I cant take any meds,as all made me even worse, and i tried every muscle relaxer there is.i am worse now at 25 months off than i was earlier.Everyone says it will get better, but its difficult to think that,as at age 77,i need to get better now to have years to do things ,even going outside would be great.
As I said I'm sorry to hear of your problems and I feel for you...the symptoms of withdrawal can last a long time and if you cannot take other meds it's difficult knowing what to suggest
a friend who was agoraphobic and couldn't take meds got some relief from hypnosis...maybe try some physiotherapy
good luck
Pat. You were on 70mg of Valium. Which " caring "doctor prescribed those? Destroyed my mothers' quality of life in the 70s and 80s also.If only we knew then ,what we know now.
No I was on 30mg ..and now I'm on 10 mg..im one of the more"fortunate" ones as I've had no side effects
You have been treated very badly by doctors.Yes,physio would be good for you. They give us simple exercises to do at home.I am doing jigsaws and u can have easy as you want. Its good you are on this forum. If you are on I-pad we can all throw in ideas to help keep your mind active and off the worry even for a short time .Best wishes
Pat,why lucky to get back on the meds,,when you went thru dire straits to get off them?
you are correct in that distraction is what has helped me get thru the last two years and my I- pad is it. From morning till evening i stay active .After 7 pm i watch the TV ,but i have to have a masking device on to be able to deal with the ear ringing.Thats how i found this site and the other 7 I am on.And i go on Benzo Buddies and Protracted, healing foods ,and others to find out how others are doing. Thanks for responding .
I am able to walk on my treadmill for 5 minutes and i have my wife drive to a supermarket ,where i grab onto a shopping cart supporting me sufficiently to walk through the store twice a week. I have been doing that for 20 months and its as difficult now as it was then.i am trying to jeep my leg muscles from atrophy. Thanks for your interest !
Hi Arnold..glad to hear you are able to do some exercise..which state do you live in ? ..we love America and are due to go to Alaska in June and a long road trip from Vegas through Utah up to Yellowstone and down to the Grand Canyon
it will help you to get out and about
keep in touch
pat
I did ask my neurologist to put me back on for the Ashton taper, after i read up on it. He said no. I think it was because they are watching prescriptions for narcotics so he did not want that potential hassle .
I live in Florida,USA and i read that someone in their 70's on that high a dose ,falling is a real problem, and i was blacking out as the last serious fall was when i was one second sitting on a park bench watching my dogs ,next i was on the concrete bleeding profusely from hitting my head on that concrete. Before that fall ,other falls shattered my elbow,my shoulder and hand. My doctor gave me MRI's said he saw nothing.
