As we continue our journeys through 'hippie land', I was wondering if anyone has experienced calf pain (outside and back) as they begin walking without assistance? I'm at 7 weeks and have started to leave the cane behind. My walk is mindful to limit any limping (although if I tire, the limp rears its head). Because the walk is so deliberate, I am thinking this is what is causing the calf pain (more a continuous ache) which occurs more when I am at rest.
I do get the occasional calf pain and watch how I walk otherwise I walk like a penguin lol xx
Good morning Tammie ...same here ... not only calves, but also shin and ankles .. I am so tense when I am walking - especially unaided ... operated hip/leg is doing great, however other hip needs THR too and slowing down progression - I am a sloppy walker, so to speak and have to be aware how to put down my feet, keep my posture up right - shoulders relaxed and all that ... I still take the cane with me though ...
be mindful where you go - one step at a time ....
big hug

Yes various aches in different places, probably due I agree to being tensed up whilst concentrating on the correct walk. I stated outside without the stick at around 8 weeks, and at 12 weeks still inclined to walk like a penguin unless I really concentrate. Have persuaded GP I need more physio
Tammy, yes.
Like you I'm 7weeks and experience the same. Like Renee, I'm in neeeeed of having the other hip done by mow, as it blocks progress on my now good hip. In fact, occasionalky the bad hip now forces me to 'catch' myself on the operated side, which is fine, but over the day, if it happens too often, it means the operated leg grows painful around the knee, the shin, the calf (outside of leg mostly).
Nothing a night's relaxing the leg doesn't solve normally, but in the current temperatures, sleep is few and far between for me.
Aches and pains will be around for a while, hopefully around half October I can say I can walk easily. Then the second will be in for a good 6 weeks as well. Until then, aches and pains will be trashed by paracetamol, ibuprofen and rest whenever possible. 😉
Volterene Pain cream 2%
Has slightly different name in the UK.
Can get without a doctor's prescription
Works marvelous.
It takes about 30 minutes to work, but works on all those odd pains in the operated & un oerated leg.
Shins, ankles, calves you name it.
Sadly my other hip is starting to go (sigh) and I just rubbed it on there an hour ago & it took away the pain. I took to napraxon + te Volterene.
I don't know what is wrong with me, now my fingers & wrists are aching also, rubbed in the Volterene. I think I better go back to the Rhematologist.
