Campervan holiday in France

I have just returned from 10 days in a campervan in France.  I was 11 weeks post op.  I found that getting in and out of the van  bit difficult and everything at home that was at waist level was below me and I had to bend over a bit. My husband would go into the cafes toilets and sus out whether I could manage as they have taken a lot of their toilet seats out and sitting on the rim is painful. The bed was too firm and I walked too far and ended up rather over doing it.  IBut I had a lovely time and now know that I would not have coped any sooner.   Also to have now had my 12 week check up with the consultant and he is pleased with the results.  I cannot walk too far without stick as I limp and the physio does not want me to limp. No more exercises to strengthen bum muscles etc.  Have been told not to push bending over and putting socks on yet and keep taking medication to allow you to walk and do the exercises.  Feeling positive.

Correction - I have more exercises to do with regard to strengthening the bum muscle.

It does have a better name doesnt it?

Hi Hilary,

Thanks for sharing and I'm really pleased to hear you had a lovely time. Did you drive or fly there? I'm due to go on a Eurocamp holiday in Italy at 10 weeks post op. We're flying, which the surgeon has OK'd but at the moment I'm a little nervous about the cramped conditions on the flight.

Thanks

I am now coming towards the end of a cruising holiday, started at 7.5 weeks and will finish at 9 to the day. Have used the long carpeted corridors, with handrails, to practice walking and can now go about the ship without a stick. I feel that I am limping badly bu hubby says it is getting much better. Also doing standing exercises whilst looking out over balcony. Upshot is, a holiday is a great boost if you can manage one. So camping, cruising, or whatever it makes you feel better and perhaps coping with the necessities of whatever holiday speeds some areas of recovery.

Hi Hilary,

. The operation was a success and at 8 weeks, I am staying  at a comfortable cottage by the sea in Cork, Ireland. All mod cons, One hour flight, 50 minutes in a hire car from the airport. Very good food and drink, no pressure, rushing, or problem solving anywhere in sight.

However, next time you go to France, you will have gone up a few notches and will have a great time.....

Hi Hilary ... sounds like a big adventure with some challenges !!!  Happy that you enjoyed it ... I guess it must eel so good to be back home too ???? big hug

Hi

wevwent by ferry and we had a cabin overnight .  I had the bottom bunk. It is a bit scary when you can't bend over to pick things up etc but I know I would not have coped before this time.
