Can a tight chest and breathlessness when resting last 7weeks with anxiety

brought a oximeter the other day cause I’ve been breathless for 7weeks now my oxygen is 98 and my pulse is 65 but still out of breath can anxiety make you breathless when resting every second of the day for 7weeks is this normal for anxiety can some help thanks

Yes it can. It started for me three years ago. I would walk 3 to 5 miles everyday then one day I collapsed out of breath. Every test under the sun. Since then I lost the ability to exercise. I gained weight and became out of shape. Now it’s even harder to tell if it’s anxiety, just being out of shape, or something all the tests missed. In fact now my blood oxygen can drop to 92 at times when I am calm but is at 99 when I am bad and feeling out of breath. My normal level in the past was always 98 to 99. Somebody will eventually come on here and tell you how great breathing exercises are. Perhaps they are if you do not breath correctly. But if you do breath correctly already they only make you paranoid more about why you feel the way you do and if you are somehow you breathing in a bad way. For me it only made me think about what comes natural. LOL am I breathing too fast, too slow, too shallow, too deep? If I don’t distract myself and focus on it I will get a panic attack and my heart rate will go sky high to about 160 or so.

Get checked out. Some medications can do this to you if you became dependent on them.

hi lee, your oxygen levels are good as well as your heart rate. anxiety can make your breathing go all over the place that’s the main symptom i have, i wake up fine then as the day goes on i can feel my breathing changing and get quite out of breath . i use mindful apps on my phone that has breathing exercises. and it really does help. also making sure your eating properly and drinking enough fluids . a bit of self care. talk to your doctor there are things in place that can help. I’ve suffered with anxiety for years, but always managed it myself, until 6 mths ago. I’m glad i got the help even though I’m still working through it but don’t feel I’m going to have a heart attack anymore lol. you will get through it :flexed_biceps:t2:

i went to the doctors ablut 5weeks ago she listened to my lungs and took my oxygen

see for me this scary breath and breathlessness bas been with me for 7weeks every second of the day can anxiety symptoms like that make you feel breathlessness everyday all day for 7weeks

I would also check for acid reflux or GERD. It is believed that for some people stomach acid causes damage to the nerves. People with acid reflux are known to have breathing difficulties and more likely to have asthma type symptoms. I have read that the nerves for your lungs and stomach run next to each other and the body can confuse stomach and lung feelings. Fullness in the digestive system in general can cause an out of breath and tight chest. I was thinking about trying a PPI myself to see if it helps or not after a few weeks.

If you search for GERD, Anxiety and shortness of breath you will find many links to each other but nobody knows what came first.

anxiety can do that. ive had it everyday since lockdown . although i can control it its still there but not so bad. speak to your doctor. my gp put me on propranolol if and when i need it. if you’ve been dealing with this for 7 weeks. it’s no fun for you! Are you on any medications? .. i would give your doctor a call so they can check you over , also for peace of mind for you. Your not alone with this

thanks for the reply,i saw my gp about five weeks ago and she listened to my lungs and took my oxygen apparently everything was fine but ive still got breathlessness every second of the day but i keep thinking its something serious
the medication im taking is steraline

hi Lee, ive also had this same thing the past month or so. doctors think its anxiety after it came on after a few panic attacks. i was also prescribed sertraline. do you feel its an effort to take a breath and the sensation of the ‘nice’ feeling isnt there when you breathe?

yeah theres that and also when im just restingmy breathing feels weird aswell
