Hi guys,
I have been posting for a few times, each time it seems I have a different symptom. I am scheduled for an MRI tomorrow but I said to myself why not post this so I can get some reassurance maybe.
For a few days now I have been thinking about my anxiety and sometimes I feel like my mind will just go blank and not remember anything. But what is worse though is the fact that I am looking at my parents and I do not know why I get the sensation that I do not know them. It is so weird, I know who they are but I am not sure why I am overthinking this so hard but it has been on my mind and wanted to ask if you guys experience such sensations as well.
I hope you are well, thank you for reading through.
Edit: I have read through depersonalization and derealization and they seem to be symptoms of anxiety as a defense mechanism.
yes, getting that weird feeling of not recognizing somebody is a part of the derealization. I have had that numerous times and it scares me very much but I also know that it’s part of the anxiety and stress. Basically what is happening is that your brain is trying to protect you from stressors so it blocks certain things out. It’s kind of strange but that’s what happens. I found that the more I relaxed my mind and managed my anxiety better, that stopped happening so much.
i also had something similar happened to me many years ago. While driving in a familiar area all of a sudden it looked weird like I knew basically where I was but things just didn’t look familiar. It wore off really fast but was scary. I’ve had anxiety my whole life so I’ve had many weird things anxiety symptoms throughout my life.
i decided a while back that I wasn’t going to allow these weird things to cost me to live in fear. It’s just not worth it. Sometimes I even laugh it off. The more serious I am about them the worse they get. It’s super important to relax your mind as much as you can and keep telling yourself that whatever the symptom is it’s going to wear off. They won’t harm you. Do you things that make you laugh and smile and bring some joy in your life whatever that may be!
I know exactly what you’re going through because I went through the exact same thing before eventually getting myself back together mentally. Anxiety can often warp and cloud your perception of the world, but the most important thing to remember is that how you perceive the thing you fear is always scarier than the actual thing itself. Depersonalization and derealization are often the symptoms of an overly stressed brain so the best thing to do is to find an activity that can help you relieve the stress in your brain and help you destress your mind. You just need to keep in mind that this depersonalization won’t last forever. It’s temporary. Eventually it will go away. You just need hope.
How did you deal with this fully? Thank you.
Sorry, it got cut off. As I was saying, when you’re depersonalized it’s usually down to an overly stressed brain. All you need to do a hobby you like to destress your brain. For me write reviews of movies, books, tv shows, and video games that I watch/read/play. Helps keep my mind sharp.
Hi, thank you for your reply. Did you have these sensations as well? Distracting myself seems to work but I want to deal with this fully rather than avoiding it.
what do you mean by deal with it fully?
I meant to say that I am working to not feel depersonalised at all and try to enjoy life fully.
Sorry if that came out wrong and confused you.
hope
That’s ok. There was a film that I watched and reviewed that really helped me out. It’s called End of Evangelion (netflix dub). On the surface it may seem bleak, but it’s actually really uplifting and you’ll feel a lot better after watching it.
