Can Anxiety come on suddenly and cause odd symptoms?

I’ve recently be diagnosed GAD and MDD. I’ve been having sleeping issues since late November despite taking medications. I had no specific trigger for my sleep issues. Can insomnia happen without a specific trigger? My muscles (all over my body) twitch while I’m at rest. I don’t have a magnesium deficiency and I’ve had tons of blood tests. My anxious self is thinking about a certain prion disease. I need some reassurance that I’ll be okay.

hi. I am glad I read your post. I am a veteran of anxiety! I’ve had every symptom you can think of. When I was in my 20s I suddenly had crazy symptoms that terrified me! I had the muscle twitching, eye floaters, weakness, numbness and tingling. My dad took me to a neurologist and everything was OK.
Basically, I’ve had anxiety since a very young age and it just all of a sudden came out as these symptoms. The body can only take so much before it breaks down and let you know through symptoms.
yes insomnia can just happen for no apparent reason. A lot of people have underlying anxiety about something in their life and suddenly find themselves awake in the middle of the night., and they are Not even sure why.
The fact that you have had blood tests that are OK is great.
Don’t worry about the muscle twitching. It’s called benign fasciculations , which means muscle twitching that is nothing serious. I have had those on and off for years starting in my 20s and I mostly get them when I am anxious. I’m now in my 50s and I’m still here! Just wanted to tell you that so you know they’re not dangerous. Athletes get them all the time with how they use their muscles.with a diagnosis of GAD, I’m not surprised that you have insomnia.
you’re going to be OK!
There are different things you can do to fall asleep and stay asleep. I like to take a warm shower or bath before bed to relax me. I don’t listen to the news because that increases my anxiety. Anything I happen to watch on TV is either humorous or something pleasant.
Another thing I do is turn on either some Nature Sounds or I listen to a soothing meditation for anxiety or any other type of meditation you like. There are hundreds of them on YouTube! Even if I happen to wake up in the middle of the night and can’t go back to sleep, I keep playing A meditation or something soothing.
I happen to take melatonin which is natural and works great for me! I also found out that it is a great antioxidant.
i hope you’re able to sleep through the night soon! Just remember to do things to relax your mind. you’ve got this!

Thank you for the reply! I’m grateful for the reassurance from a veteran of anxiety. All of the symptoms are quite new to me so I do worry (it’s the GAD talking). Hope you are having a good day if you see this.

thank you and yes it’s definitely the GAD talking! to combat that what we do is intentionally put positive thoughts in our head and even when we speak. That way, the brain picks up on that. you have a good day too!

15 years ago out of nowhere all these weird symptoms of aches, pains and other issues etc. I noticed I am a bit high strung so I’m sure that added to it. But GAD has alot of symptoms in itself. Mine started with racing thoughts, being scared all of the time. it now makes me think I’m dying every day lol. There is a website that literally list all 100 symptoms of anxiety and the symptoms it causes. But just know that your not alone in your suffering, you have help here with us!
