Hello everybody. I'm 37 years old with 2 young kids. I've recently had pains in my left hand which coincidently have disappeared now. But 6 days after the pains started my left leg became numb which lasted bout 2 days or so. Ive swellings on my ankles and knees for maybe 15 years now. Multiple sclerosis has been mentioned by my gp also rheumatoid arthritis, that was before the numb leg. Can anybody help recognise these symptoms?
I'm not an expert but if your getting swelling it sounds more like arthritis. I also get a numb feeling in my right leg along with arm and face. GP has referred me to a neurologist to rule out MS! Have you got any vision problems? This is usually the first symptom.
Hi Mary
MS as numerous different "shows" what migjt sound familiar to one sufferer may not be to another. The symptons you mention did not happen to myself mine started with the feeling of very cold feet and difficulty walking.
I would suggest that you pester your gp with your fears, I didn't and in my case it took from the first symptoms to been diagnosed eleven months plus a further five months before any form of medication.
I honestly believe that if things had been sorted quicker I might have gained a bit more of the mobility than I have.
I wish you well Mary and hope that you have a positive outcome. Take care.
The numb leg does sound like an MS relapse if it lasted 2 days (I've had this) but the joint pain and swelling may be something else. Blood work, a brain MRI, a Lumbar Puncture and a full history on your symptoms is a very good place to start
Just out of interest what would show up in a blood test if you had Ms?
Thank you first of all amy for your comment, its a very scary feeling, thinking of the causes. My vision seems to be ok but i do see little black spots maybe twice a year or so and lately my eyes seem a bit watery... Sometimes i think oh maybe im running away with myself and theres nothing wrong with me but when i sit down and think of every little thing thats happened in the last few years i get petrified. If it was just me i wouldn't be so aggitated but i've a 3year old and a 4 year old .
Thank you Adrian for your comment and youre right about the gp. I think i'll take your advice and pester him. I wish you well .
Hi PaineFury, thank you for your comment. Yes thats when i really got scared, with the numb leg. Now when i went to the gp with my wrist and hand he prescribed arcoxia, i'd been taking them for 6 days before the leg started and so i stopped taking them and 2 days later the leg was ok. I asked the pharmacist and doc would the tablets be the cause and they said they never heard of that before. Think i'm just clutching at straws....
I asked the nurse taking the blood test on wed would anything for ms show up in the blood test and she said no just a mri or lumpar puncture would diagnose it
