does anyone know what this is or seen it before ? it worries me on a daily basis

It might be melanoma. I’m no doctor, but if this worries you I think its best to visit a doctor to get it checked out. Im guessing maybe a dermatologist would be a good person to get it checked too.
It could be melanonchyia caused by trauma to the nail. However, certain medications, systemic diseases, vitamin deficiencies and other skin conditions can also contribute to the problem. If you look up on google, you will find out a lot of things that may terrify you, including skin cancer. To be sure, you should go to a dermatologist for an accurate diagnosis. A friend of mine had a brown line on her toenail and was referred to a dermatologist. It was just a toenail fungus and antifungal fugacil cream cleared it within a few days. Good luck!

So I will like to make 2 comments:
First about your nail, Carl, if you have not hit your nail with anything or engaged in some form of activity which might have caused damage, I think you might have biotin deficiency and would recommend you get a check up on that.
Secondly, I do not understand how websites like this operate and it drives me mad! Reading the comments I noticed 3 comments have been deleted by the “moderator”! Why on earth would you delete people’s comments? We are all here to discuss our health issues, get advices and recommendations! I read through all the comments posted only to see some have been deleted!
