Can CFS be linked to a menstrual cycle??

My daughter is 14. She is currently under suspicion of having CFS.

She had glandular fever in Sept 2013, and since then has had recurring lethergy/ sore throat/ headaches/ lymph pain since....

The week in-between ovulation and actual bleeding is when she is at her worst, to the point she now misses a week from school every month. The gp has put her on the pill today, with the thinking that if they stop her ovulating then her symptoms will be more managable.

I'd appreciate any thoughts/ info/ and general support.

Also I'd like to hear from any parents experiences of dealing with their childs eductaion... I cant wake her up, nevermind get her to school!

Please note, she is not depressed.... well she isnt at the moment, if this continues then she may end up being!! She was an extremely active teenager, who would compete her beloved horses every week and enjoy an active social life. Thankyou x

Before I realized I probably have and was concequently diagnosed with CFS, I suspected a number of other illnesses / health issues. At one point I realized that there's a to PMS, because I was regularly feverish and fluish and unable to work before menstruation. So to answer your question, many people suffering from CFS also have strong PMS symptoms. My fever and other related symptoms have been significantly relieved thanks to LDN, so I don't have this PMS problem any longer.

Google for example The pain practitioner and CFIDS to find an article where the link between CFS and PMS is mentioned (The pain practitioner, volume 20). It's also an otherwise excellent article.

Correction: that there's a link to PMS

Hi, a high percentage of females with cfs/me fibromyalgia do suffer a severe exacerbation of pre menstrual / menstruation symptoms each month theses include overwhelming fatigue, severe cramping abdominal pain , lower back pain, aching in the hips and legs like toothache, debilitating headaches. A combination of anti inflammatory medication and paracetomol or low dose of codeine if any pain is very severe will help. Wheat Warmers across the back and lower abdomen will reduce muscle spasms. Before giving medication to your 14yr old please check with your gp first as you don't say whether she is taking analgesia for the suspected cfs A diagnosis of cfs is only reached when all other medical conditions with related symptoms have been excluded this is usually done by blood tests. If and when a diagnosis of cfs is made ask for her to be referred to a Specialist cfs unit usually done on an out patient basis the help and support that you will get is usually very Good.
