I'm 40 male, 5'8", 140lb, white, British. I've been experiencing frequent urination but no other symptoms. I went to the doctors today and they gave me a urine test. She said there were traces of glucose and white blood cells in my urine. She has asked me to go in for a blood test and I think a Prostate psa test. I forgot to tell the doctor that I had been on antibiotics for 7 days for a skin infection. I finished the course on Sunday and had a urine dipstick test on Wednesday morning. Could the medication raise urine glucose levels?
It's possible. When you return, mention that you were on antibiotics.
Thanks for your reply. This article appears to state that penicillin can affect urine tests https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/3552507/
It's not necessarily the medication - illness can raise your BG temporarily!
You mean something other than diabetes? I feel fine to be honest. The antibiotics were for a skin infection.
Did doctor send urine away for microbiology. Do not think antibiotics affect glucose levels, a ? you would need to ask your doctor. Your doctor probably being cautious in giving you antibiotics again. Good luck.
