Can I go back on hrt after being off it for 3 years

I was 57 yr old and my doctor decided I should come off my hrt because She thought I should be through the menopause ! Aye right !!! I am now 60 and my flushes & mood swings are awful , I have had the most miserable 3 yrs ever , I want my life back again ! My aches and pains in my body are just awful..... can I go back on hrt after 3 years being of it ?

Perhaps you should consider asking your doctor.  Have you called and asked?

That must be awful for you when you thought you had gone through menopause. How long were you on hrt? Have you considered trying sage and magnesium and meno pace. They help some of us on here. Along with many other supplements, they are suggested in other posts on here for different symptoms.

Hope you find some relief soon

how long were you on it valerie?

Hi Maisie , I,m just new on here so any help would be very much appreciated..... I tried red clover for about a year but felt no difference, that's all I ave tried so will def try the meno pace as it seems to help a lot of people .... I was on the hrt for about 10 yrs with a couple of breaks in between which my doc recommended.... I felt great on it & really did not want to come off it , but doc basically gave me no choice .

Thankyou for your concern

Yea I ave spoke to a doctor but she said it was not advisable cause it's too long a break off it .... And going back on it after such a long time can cause strokes

about 10 yrs having breaks in between

I am so relieved to hear from someone who sounds like they are having the same experience as me. I had my last period at 57 but even before that the flushes were terrible. I am 61. I have tried everything but nothing works for me except HRT. I am great on it. No aches and pains, no mood swings and no hot flushes or sweats. I sleep too. I have been on and off HRT for 9 years, I think. My consultant told me I could go back on it but gave me all the other options and suggested patches this time round. You will understand how bad I am. My husband is pleading with me to go on it again. I have between 11 and 50 wake ups a night and have to swop to the other side of the bed, while that side cools down and dries. So to answer your question, yes, apparently it is.

How long was your break off the hrt Alison ?

So if you have your answer why are you asking again? Your doctor is the only one better equipped to tell you whether you can or cannot. I recall the same with my mom, going on hrt, was told her risk of a heart attack or stroke would increase, and so not advised to take it.  Maybe you should look into alternatives like menopace.

it's endless isn't it.  You find something that gives you quality of life again and then you are told to stop.  then the horrible stuff happens again.  If I can be of any help, try a good quality omega 3 oil, this has helped by aches and pains so much (maybe you've already tried)  after a few weeks all my aches got better,  not gone, but better.  Still working on the other stuff, but the omega 3 oil is something that I am sticking with along with a vitamin D3 supplement which really helps with mood swings, for me anyway.  It really does, because I forgot to take for a couple of days, mood started to drop and I started again and no lie, I felt much brighter the following day.  hope that is some help.  The HRT argument confuses everyone, I wish they would just get the whole issue straightened out once and for all. It's a mess!

Hi Valerie. It is a difficult time for you. I've been told if I start hrt I will still have to go through the flushes etc. when I come off it.

It is your decision and we can only give you the benefit of our experiences. Some women on here are staying on hrt with the consent of their doctor. Have you considered asking another doctors opinion?

I have been taking high strength sage, passionflower, CQ10 and meno serene for four weeks and then magnesium and D3 for the last week and I've slept better for the last two nights. Oh and Kalms night. I'm rattling! And been wearing the lady care magnet. Trying everything at the moment!

One thing that helped me with a bad back and shoulder/neck pain last year was seeing a chiropractor and a Pilates class. A good one tailored to older women with an experienced older teacher (previously a physiotherapist), not a younger class doing the plank with no guidance!

Good luck and keep talking on here x

Hi was just reading this post and the 1st thought that jumped out at me was your reply which seemed very harsh! A lot of the time we know the answer but we keep asking in the hope that someone has the miracle answer to whatever issue we are experiencing. When we are down we need hope!! And that's what this site is about giving each other hope and support and also the benefit of our experiences. Love and blessings.💕 to all those ladies who are struggling 💞💞

Hi Valerie. I have lost 2 responses to you. Will try again later

Third time lucky. I have been off and on HRT for years. Everytime I stop, back to the same symptoms. I have not taken it for 9 or 10 months now. Tried all the natural stuff. No difference. As I am well passed menopause, looking into other reasons why I am still suffering.

Ditto tinaarena.

Hi Valerie. I echo what Maisie says about perhaps getting a 2nd opinion from another doc as there are so many formulas of hrt now, many lower risk versions in the form of gels etc that might be worth discussing options. It is miserable. maybe you could start low & titrate up with monitoring with your gp - just a suggestion you could put in front of your or another gp . also many surgeries now have specialist meno/wellwoman gp's or nurses that are well clued up on hrt & meno/gynae issues more so than some gp's without a specialism. you could ask your surgery if they have one you could see. xxx

hey girls, I don't think this answer is so harsh!  this lady has been on this site quite a while now and has given lots of helpful tips and experiences to lots of ladies.  Remember we are all in the same boat here and it is what it is, menopause, and nerves are frayed all round.  We all get either over-sensitive or stroppy on different days.  We are all here to help each other!

Thank you.

Hi you sent me a response but it was deleted by a moderator when I went into it?
