Can I request an x-ray?

Hi there,

I saw my NHS/Private dentist in October last year to re-do a filling (paid private) which cracked the first time. I left the UK for a period after this and was still getting discomfort, I think it is still faulty but didn’t want to do treatment outside of UK. Since coming back in March my dentist left and I haven’t been able to get it fixed due to covid restrictions and other reasons. I called the practise today and am going for an NHS Band 1 treatment examination (I am due one anyway). Within that meeting the dentist can have a look at it. Reception said they might be able to fix it for free but not sure until dentist sees it. Am I allowed to request a full mouth x-ray from this NHS examination appointment? They don’t have a full mouth x-ray for me on record and I think it would just be good to have this done as I haven’t had one done for years. Is that enough of a reason?

I also want an x-ray because whilst I couldn’t get an appointment with them during covid, I went to a different private dentist as a one-off to get a different amalgam filling changed to a white one. I had an important occasion and wanted the silver out. I’ve ended up having pain two weeks later. Went to see this dentist again and they think it’s an occlusion so filed it down. I am still getting discomfort and if it doesn’t go away I will need to see them again. I suspect they may want to do x-rays if that happens and they’re really expensive at their practise. Once this amalgam replacement tooth is sorted I won’t be seeing this dentist again.

Hope someone can provide some insight or advice, thank you.
